Not really. It’s a footie site. Given we are a political, perhaps we should focus on the the club and the football?

Love big Nige. About time he got voted in to sort out the mess Labour are creating. He also looked very nice in Blue.

By the way. Not every Ipswich supporter has to be a lefty! They are not inextricably linked.

Tbf, it did make me think of away fans’ stands and that traditional old ‘we are the left side’ //‘we are the right side’ chant, so ludicrously mundane that it’s quite funny.

I think its politics, people get fed up when they've had the same for a long time, and just vote for a change. We've we've had it here Thatcher/Cons, then Blair/Brown, then Cons again. That same 'we've fed up we'll just vote for any change' has happened across the world and it impacts both sides of the political argument.

The only people who stay in power longer are dictators like Putin, Jinping, Castro.

Orban was much more in the last group you mention than the first. Corrupt as fook and stacked things so it essentially became a one horse race for years. I’m surprised he went, but presumably even he couldn’t find a way to spin such a big loss.

It’s good news for democracy and a kick in the balls for all the Orban-lites who’ve were part of the global populist/authoritarian/grifting right. I’m not sure what it means for Hungary, as Magyar is still a conservative, but as long as he’s not a corrupt one they should be in a much better place.

The reality is that just with the right win populism damaging the USA right now, you had endemic corruption in Hungary and misguided trade policies - Orban was a busted flush and a Putin patsy

Hungarian people aren’t stupid as to what’s actually happened in Ukraine

Hugely damaging to Trump, who baked Orban to the nth degree and in his deluded mind was going to help him win the election!

The Vance is now being called by even right European populist as a disaster move

Something for Fuhrage to ponder!!

Reform are already getting mass Russian bot support, that will only ramp up.

Jury’s out on Magyar. History tells us that when a leader shapes a system for his own benefit, often his successor comes in with all good intentions then can’t resist the temptation of doing exactly what his predecessor did. He’s certainly not a liberal.

Trump made the difference.

Orban thought he had made it impossible to change the constitution when he changed it so that any future changes required a two thirds majority.. Vance spent three days in Hungary with constant television coverage promising financial support but only if Orban was re-elected.

Blatant outside interference helped to ensure anyone uncertain made their vote count. It resulted in the highest ever turnout.

How our next election turns out is still difficult to judge. If the electorate here feel it is time for a chsnge it isn’t going to help Labour.

Whilst the defeat of Orban is a good thing, if it's a pendulum it's a faulty one because the only parties to win seats were

a centre-right party led by someone who until 2024 was a member of Orban's party,

the far-right party of Orban, and

an even further right party

I'm glad I don't live in such a country because I would feel that no one represents me.

The Trump/Vance brand is so toxic right now due to the folly of the Iran war and the enabling Israel for yet more civilian bombing in Lebanon.

Fuhrage has been de-emphasising his Trump love in recently.
But double down late last week. Dangerous tactic for the Tendring Mirage!

Indeed. Magyar's slightly more pro-EU stance (or at least wanting to get on with them a bit better) by no means makes him some kind of liberal. His beef with Orban has always been more about corruption and hypocrisy than ideology.

Perhaps you shouldn't read threads that upset you and leave the adults alone to discuss things in those threads?

This is an important subject for all of Europe and even beyond so it's well worth discussing.
