| EFL awards tonight..... 18:37 - Apr 19 with 1611 views | Bloots | ....no Town nominations for player of the season, nor for manager of the season. No players in the Championship team of the season. No nominations for "off pitch" work either. Statistically we are currently the second best team in the EFL. Not sure what this is telling me really! | |

We seem to have copped all the flak this season for not living up to other people’s expectations. With Leicester it seems to be accepted as part of a general decline in their fortunes but Southampton, even when they were struggling seemed to escape any criticism of their poor form v expenditure. Both those clubs had many years financial head start on us as well.

Southampton's struggles were, fairly it seems, directed at Still. They massively underachieved until November. The FA Cup run has helped the perception of their season too. Leicester are a shambles and should never be where they are. I don't get the Rowett appointment; he's a decent manager but the club's expecations and his approach hardly align.

I think Southampton’s struggles under Will Still were seen as a continuation of their dreadful year last year, a team for whom defeat had been become second nature sort of thing. Now, they become a story because of their strong form and cup run.

....perhaps Clarke, his goalscoring has at least been consistent, particularly in comparison to the players that have got into the team of the season. Azor maybe, but he was up against some decent opposition to be fair. Our defenders have conceded less goals than 3 of the 4 defenders selected. I'd suggest that O'Shea is a better centre back than those selected personally. They've got 2 Swansea players and one from Stoke in the team, plus a Wrexham defender. I'm not really complaining, obviously it means sod all, "expectation" shouldn't really come into it though.

Manager, no surprise. Off field? Much more surprised. Not really sure what that tells me either! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yes I suppose it’s that other people/fans have set their own high expectations on us and they’re the ones that are criticising us for not meeting their expectations. I never really bought this ‘best squad ever in the championship’ stuff. It’s good for the 3 in the 4231 formation we play (on paper even the right side) but elsewhere beyond the first eleven it’s not that great. My own expectation was a solid play off finish. The longer term goal should be to improve both our foreign scouting and academy, which after years of neglect by Evans are still behind most other clubs as it takes time to catch up.

Clarke is the nearest but most of his goals are pens and he doesn't start every game. Swansea striker in there no doubt and certainly better than what we have. Sorry but this season has been very disappointing for the most part, thank god we beat the scum twice, I am happy with that :-)

I think we made such a mess of recruitment in the summer of 2024 it put us back last summer. If I could go back I think I'd be happy with us signing O'Shea, plus perhaps Townsend as back up to Davis, and that's it. None of the others have really offered enough of an improvement on what we had before, particularly considering the fees paid. Even in O'Shea's case, Woolfenden wasn't THAT bad.

We are second with four games left, we’d all have loved 100 points/100 goals but if you think this season has been “very disappointing” I just don’t know what to say to you. Some - too many - people have gone utterly bonkers.

Clarke and Philogene would have been in the equation for me. I guess there are players in that position who have outperformed them this season. I guess it says we have performed solidly across all positions rather than spectacularly in one or two. It also goes to show how strong the division is that there are clearly players at lower clubs who have stood out as the best in the division.

Both too inconsistent. Clarke has scored goals but his displays can be hit and miss. Philogene another. Some wonderful goals scored by Philogene, but like yesterday where was he? That’s probably why their fellow professionals didn't vote for them, haven’t shown enough consistency in their displays where others have and let’s factor in a period out with injuries.
