Drinking with one of my heroes last night…

The one,the only, Sir Tim Martin the founder and chairman of the Wetherspoons pubs.

Interesting fact for you all.

Sir Tim Martin named the pubs after one of his school teachers he told him he wouldn’t rise to much in life.

He know runs over 800 pubs

I thought you would like it.

Couldn’t believe it when we walked in and he was there

I had heard how he likes to frequent his own establishments.

Just blends into the crowd like a normal bloke really.

May I suggest that you need a better calibre of hero?

The bloke wanted to axe child benefit in it's entirety so that you could reduce tax, saving drinkers £1 if they drank 20 pints at his chain.

He refused to pay staff during COVID until the govt forced his hand (imagine having to be shamed into ANYTHING by Boris Johnson!).

From a strictly personal and political standpoint, he also vociferously pushed Brexit, including, at best, bending the rules about using corporate funding without shareholder permission to push Brexit nonsense in every one of his establishments.

And, of course, then whined about how it wasn't the right sort of Brexit.

Or some such cobblers.

I really like the The Crosse Keys - beautiful building and a nice smoking area out the back.

No fan of the boss, but for a skint bod like me, his pubs provide the option of a night out. Come to think of it, I'll be the Highbury one tomorrow, so maybe I should get over myself.

The way I see it is like this.

My town pub (Colchester) charges £5.60 for a pint of ale and £5.60 for a pint of Girlsburg.

Just across the road is The Playhouse a beautiful building that was a Theatre and Picture house.

That charges £2.99 for the ale and £2.89 for the Girlsburg be bonkers not to use the spoons tbh.

There are cheaper drinks available as well.
