Weird feeling about tomorrow night 13:46 - Apr 27 with 1690 viewsIllinoisblue

Such an odd set of circumstances. We’re playing THE in-form team in the country, a promotion rival, yet it doesn’t matter if we lose. A draw is irrelevant for both teams. We win and it’s party time. Hard one to call but I think saints will have just a little too much for us. I’m not sure we have enough difference makers to win versus a very good team. We could do with Mehmeti and Nunez having the games of their lives; can’t recall the last time either made a significant contribution. They both need to step it up. Jack Clarke had a stinker v WBA, he surely can’t be that ineffective again. Billy Jean’s due another worldie. Now would be a good time. COYB

I think the fact that Saints really need to win does put pressure on them, they'll also need to attack might open things up for us. I am quietly optimistic we might get something, don't forget a draw will mean they can't get second.

I think if you were we qualify "championship difference makers" we would have the most of any Champ team. The problem is none of them have really stepped up for a little while.

I'd have them down for Scienza and Azaz and we've got Clarke, Philo and Mehmeti. All 5 players who have shown they can step up and put a team on their shoulders at any given moment.

A draw is not irrelevant at all, seen a lot of people saying this which simply is not the case.

It stops Southampton being able to catch us.

It means a draw vs QPR would be enough to stay ahead of Middlesborough.

It means if we lost to QPR then Millwall would need a win rather than a draw vs Oxford to get ahead of us.

I think it matters if we lose, potentially a lot. We have a chance to secure promotion tomorrow night so we go for it. There is no debate on that. Southampton, likewise, will go for it too.

If we don't win tomorrow night, then we have to win Saturday. I think it would be very unwise to take that for granted. Fatigue is a factor and if QPR score first in that scenario, it will be an even bigger challenge.

Overall, we are in a very good position, one I certainly would have taken at numerous intervals this season.

I've a horrible feeling that the schedule is going to catch up with us and we are going to take a bit of hammering. Really hope i'm wrong of course but the last week must have taken a lot out of them.

Against the team who've had an even tougher schedule than us? Hmm I'm not so sure re. a hammering.

Defintely the potential for that to happen. If we are a bit off our game like first half Saturday and Saints come at us like WBA did then they might be out of sight before HT.

I think if we’re going to get anything tomorrow we will need to play as we did at Norwich. Concede that we will have less of the ball and look to create a couple of opportunities from set pieces or breakaways.

Head says it’ll be a draw, heart says we it’s another 2-0 perfect away perf.

3 away games in a week is brutal and all against teams with something to play for. But the likes of Greaves and McAteer have played only half a season in terms of appearances, they shouldn’t be that tired.

Yes I said the same on another post earlier. Southampton HAVE to win, we don't. A point is far from irrelevant for us.

While I agree it's not totally irrelevant, it just helps with a few scenarios like us drawing and middlesbrough winning and us losing and Millwall drawing.

However, the other team in those scenario's could win so it would be irrelevant.

I agree, its not totally irrelevant but imo if you are level with 10 to go Town absolutely chuck the kitchen sink at it and risk the loss in that scenario until the final minute.

Oh that old chestnut. Playing against a team who have had the same if not tougher schedule than us. Have just come off the back of putting in a momentous 95 minutes on the weekend against the best team in world football - but it’s us that the schedule might catch up with.

I swear ‘fans’ don't want us promoted. Such nonsense spouted at every opportunity at the minute.

People need to chill the fcuk out.

In that case it isn't irrelevant then is it, as a point tomorrow could count for something come 2.30pm on Saturday. We obviously want to win but McKenna won't be going absolutely gung-ho and throwing caution to the wind if the game is level with 5-10 mins left. Whereas Southampton need to.

Wes could be leaping around like a Spring lamb.
Clarke and Philo have been sharing LW duties.
They've had a tough and emotional weekend.
They have to win.

I'd rather be us right now.

I said its not totally irrelevant.

its only relevant if we don't beat QPR at home and the other 2 don't win, so we'd be relying on Millwall and Middlesbrough not to win.

I should imagine SOuthampton will be going for it if it's a draw near the end so that might help us break and get a goal......here's hoping!

A point tomorrow and a point vs QPR and Boro can't catch us either as long as they don't win by more than 5 goals.

I'm much happier now that we can afford to lose this match.

Not saying it's a free hit, but if Millwall had beaten Leicester as expected or we lost to West Brom which could easily have happened, we'd be going into the match needing a result to keep promotion in our own hands.

I think it will be end to end like the Hull match 2 years ago, hopefully without a clanger that causes KMc to punch the dugout!

Millwall can still win though?

I think a draw is fine, but it's not going to change too much!

But Millwall win at a canter at home to an already relegated Oxford, shirley? Why would we not try to put the odds further in our favour?

We've been handed lots of opportunities in recent weeks. I don't see many more falling into our laps. From everything I'm hearing, we will be going all out to win Tues AND Saturday (if needed).

I think there's too many 'fans' that would rather be proved right about certain things than swallow their pride and want their team to do well by hook or by crook.

False!

In this scenario, Southampton would still need two very heavy home favorites last day to not win at home to get autos if they beat Preston.

We would literally need 1 goal for PL football, this is a stupid way of looking at it.

If we don’t win one of the two games I’d bet a lot of money on us not finishing second. Millwall will win last day against a relegated team who will be coming to the Den to clap their fans and shake hands.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

You'd think so but pressure does funny things. We obviously go there to win but surely you'd rather go into the final day with it as virtually a two horse race rather than a four horse race?

I think a draw is very unlikely though personally as Southampton will be so gung-ho if they aren't ahead in the last 10 mins or so that I suspect we would catch them on the counter.

Southampton have played 1 more game than us in April, how come it would have taken more out of us than Southampton?

They had four home games in April compared to our two.
