I doubt it. I don’t think the officers who stamped on the head of the person they were restraining at B’ham airport were ever charged (I could be wrong). I suspect they’ll be fine considering he was armed. | |

Being intellectually lazy with more than a dash of brainless bigotry towards visibly different people, at a time when theis country's in trouble economically, with crumbling infrastructure, over-stretched services, and there's international conflict in several places globally, resulting in uncertainty & fear being in the background.
There should be cross-party (not to mention cross-border) discussions on this, climate change, the futures of the NHS, BBC, the housing crisis, water, food & farming security etc etc etc but there never is - because politicians are too wrapped up their own individual little power bubbles instead of actually thinking imaginatively & long-term about what's best for the country & "ordinary" people. | |

As someone of Jewish heritage I’ve been observing the rise of anti-semitism in the UK for some time with increasing concern. I’m under no illusion that the far left in this country is responsible, to a very large extent, to the rise of anti-semitism. The main driver has been their longstanding views on Palestine and how they see both Israel and America (yes, that West) as responsible for colonial oppression.
As far as Polanski is concerned, it’s clear he holds such views and his courting the Muslim vote in a recent by-election means he is also weaponsing this position. On the whole the Right support Israel as they see them as opposed to the Islamists, so the enemy of their enemy.

I heard an interesting interview earlier with a Rabbi local to Golders Green who said nothing can be done. His view was that fundamentally it comes down to hatred against Jews. He was saying that all of the ‘reasons’ for antisemitism throughout history are nothing more than excuses that just hide bigotry and hatred. The Palestine situation being the latest ‘reason’ for people to try to justify their antisemitism. I can see his point as surely it’s very easy to disassociate the actions of Netanyahu and his cronies from normal Jews going about their lives in the UK. Yet some people decide not to make that distinction.

Your criticism was a poster making the thread political. The OP did that. Reform and the Tories are key to normalising racism - the rise in antisemitism exists in that environment - the door is open to "wear your racism proudly on your sleeve" (Steve Bannon).
Nick Cohen is not a healthy source and the jc doesn't have the best record of being accurate and open.
