| BTW, something I haven't seen mentioned... 08:35 - May 4 with 1603 views | The_Flashing_Smile | If I'd have know how shockingly sh!t QPR would be, I'd have been less nervous. They had a couple of half decent shots that Walts had to deal with, but other than that they were a lot poorer than I was expecting. I was still anxious at 2-0, thinking if they got one back our players would get nervous and be prone to a mistake that could cost another goal (see my poem, link below) but as it turned out the fear was a lot greater than the reality. If it weren't for what was riding on it, that would've been a really (mentally) comfortable afternoon. | |

| BTW, something I haven't seen mentioned... on 08:41 - May 4 with 1536 views | hoppy | Their run of form and situation of nothing to play for surely gave enough pointers that they might not be that much of a challenge. It wasn’t nerves that woke me up early on the morning, just excitement of the occasion and confirmation of the expected outcome. | |

Poor attempt at PSG, they did it again when we scored,

| BTW, something I haven't seen mentioned... on 09:22 - May 4 with 1215 views | HighgateBlue | Yeah, I never really believe in "on the beach", but that was how their performance largely read. Having said that, something that /was/ said a lot in the build up was how up for it our players would be. And goodness me, the dream scenario for that to translate into would be our players with their tails up going hell for leather from the start. Didn't quite expect that from a McKenna side, just because he's so measured and prudent, but the way our players started the game was perfection. Great early chance. Then they went again and again. And we'd killed the game inside 10 minutes. If the QPR lot were up for a reasonable challenge to start with, were they really going to be bothered to try to fight back from 2-0 down with nothing really to play for? So I do think our players deserve much credit for really going for it from the word go. QPR were a rabbit in headlights. Ipswich never /seem/ to do things the easy way, they always seem to put us through the wringer. But Saturday was pretty perfect. Well done the lads. And especially pleased for the likes of Hirst and McAteer, who have had their challenges and their critics this season (including me, and people much more knowledgeable and significant than me). | | | |

Yeah I knew all the facts, still didn't stop the fear. Football's a funny old game!

I remember still having the fear when we were 5-0 up at half time against Exeter.

Coming into the game I was pretty confident and going 2-0 up so early and in such style really eased the nerves. QPR really did seem to be 'on the beach'. But then we eased right off and looked more as if we looking to hold on to the lead rather than extend it. This was exemplified by the change to the corner routines, sticking only 4 players in the box and playing it short. At that point QPR got some decent possession even if they rarely made anything of it. Then Paul Smyth coming on and making some good runs at our defence it did feel as if the game could change entirely if they snatched one back. I started bricking it again. Which manager claimed that 2-0 was a dangerous scoreline? I felt the truth of that. Thankfully we eased back into it later in the 2nd half and that goal from McAteer sealed it and all anxiety disapated. One other thing became clear. Tension is tiring.

However, in those first 15 minutes I don’t think it was just a case of QPR not turning up but also we were bloody superb and I think any of the teams in the Championship would have struggled to keep us out. Never been more pleased to be proved wrong and all credit to the team and manager for getting us over the line especially with the run in we had. Now reverting to type, how many points do people think we will need to secure 17th place next season?

I was coming off nights Saturday morning and my plan was to sleep a bit, watch the game, sleep a bit. The fact that I slept clean through says that I was probably pretty confident that QPR would roll over obligingly.

I've watched so many blog/YouTube thingies I forget which one, and it wasn't a Town one, poss a TalkSport one.. Anyway.. they made the point look at that second goal and no team in the Champ will compete with that type of passing/moving. We win the ball quick pass to Burns, who instantly one touch pass to Hirst, who quickly moves the ball to his opposite side, Philogene then runs across, simple pass to his feet, side step, back of the end. Their point being the pass, movement for that goal was top quality and yes QPR were poor but were never going to live with that.

I think the corner kick thing was more that QPR left 3 or 4 players up so we had to drop men out of the box. It was an interesting tactic. I wonder if some brave team might try it against Arsenal to make the box less crowded.

Same. On the one hand its football and anything can happen, on the other we're just a much stronger side than them at the best of times, but when you consider the sense of will and desire we had vs. a team who really were the epitome of 'beached', I didn't ever think it was in doubt. Had it stayed 0-0 longer it might've got interesting. A few moans and groans in the crowd no doubt, and an opponent who might've had a clean sheet to hang on to. Their keeper was taking about 1 minute to get the ball in play at 2-0, I dread to think how 0-0 would've looked. I fully expected us to come out of the blocks quickly though for that reason, to capitalise on the momentum and atmosphere which we did, and it was wrapped up by minute 9.
| BTW, something I haven't seen mentioned... on 13:25 - May 4 with 349 views | selondonblue23 | I’ve obviously had a pretty perfect weekend, like many of us. It got even better yesterday when the entire QPR squad walked into the bar I was in (in London). Assume it was their end of season celebrations. It took me a while to recognise who they were (my god they looked young) and was only when I spotted Steve Bould and then their manager that I worked it all out. Obviously was half-keen on saying thanks to them but left them be, last thing they need. First time I’d ever been to this bar, basically went on a whim, and to see them all there 24 hours on from our pitch invasion felt like beautiful serendipity. | | | |

I turned on to watch the last 10 minutes - the first ITFC related live action, I’ve seen since Farage-gate - and within a few minutes of doing so, Walton was parrying Paul Smyth’s shot out to the feet of Daniel Bennie, only for him to balloon the rebound over the bar. I nearly turned straight off again. [Post edited 4 May 22:45]
