I guess it is to distinguish him from all the others Bannons that are always on the pitch at the same time as him.
What also irks me more than it should do is how the commentators are always determined to make it all about him. I only saw the closing stages but Millwall had a move which he wasn't involved in at all and it ended with a shot off target. The commentator then says something along the lines of "couldn't work the ball out to Barry Bannon" (who wasn't even in any position to be able to shoot either!) |  |
