| VAR is a disgrace. (n/t) on 12:44 - May 11 by Radlett_blue | The rules are there, but is a referee supposed to toss a coin at every corner, to decide whether he gives a penalty kick or a free kick to the defence? I accept that one a lot of penalty kicks had been given, defenders might change their behaviour. |
I can’t remember which game it was but I deliberately ignored the ball and simply watched the players grappling with each other. The corner taker dropped his arm to indicate he was taking the corner. All the grappling stopped although some players continued on their trajectory ( to the floor!) thus when ball was in flight no fouls were being committed. It strikes me that this is coached. Have a look at the next game you are watching on TV. Any professional players care to comment? | | | |
| VAR is a disgrace. (n/t) on 13:53 - May 11 with 436 views | OldFart71 | What is the difference between VAR and a referee making a decision ? Well, a club needs to spend a fortune installing VAR. Instead of one biased person, three if you include lines persons, you have three looking at screens replaying endlessly what may or may not be an offence. Except where a person's toenail of part of his long hair is offside the same biases apply and decisions can go one way or the other. As for jostling in the box at free kicks and corners unless the powers that be stop any type of physical contact I really don't know how you stop it. One referee has said unless referees give penalties it won't stop, but if you have two people equally wrestling how do you decide who is committing an offence and all that will happen is small clubs get penalties given against them and big teams get free kicks in their favour. | | | |
| VAR is a disgrace. (n/t) on 15:12 - May 11 with 395 views | bluelagos | I think it fair to say a bloke sat in a room, watching 17 replays of multiple fouls, taking around 5 minutes to come to a conclusion and ultimately deciding (pretty much) where the title goes, isn't what we were sold. Struggling to see how the foul was "clear and obvious" and struggling with the delay in the game too. VAR has made the game worse imho - and yesterday showed just how cr*p it can be as fans await a decision miles away when the ref has already made a call. I supported it at first - but am firmly of the view it has made the game worse - and yesterday was prime example. I like football to be decided by players and goals and refs rather people watching monitors of slowed down views or drawing lines etc. Yep, sometimes refs get things wrong - would prefer that to what we watched yesterday tbh. But to call the guy a disgrace is a bit OTT - given he was only doing what we ask him to do. Either bin it, or reform it - but what we had yesterday was cr*p imho | |
