| The economy has grown... despite the Iran war on 18:40 - May 14 by jasondozzell | Oh no. You can't use that old get out. They purged the party of the left so this is all on them. We're not talking about the crazies here by the way. Just those who wanted the labour party to be mildly socialist. And once again for those at the back, requesting moderate demonstratic socialism is not extreme. But if you're listening to Ian Dunt then that says it all. |
Instead of lashing out like a drunk guy in a pub, tell us what you’d do differently. I’ve been critical of this government, but interested in what your vision is, how you’d fund it, how you’d get past the demographic changes that the West has faced. Other than ‘they were mean to Jeremy’?

1. There are loads of political threads, why have you picked on mine? 2. You could choose not to open a clearly labelled political thread. 3. There's a football only tab. 4. What about my posting of facts about the economy is socialist? I suspect the truth of your bleating here is that you don't like Labour and don't want positive news about the economy to be broadcast anywhere.

the waiting lists have been manipulated and figures moved to different areas of NHS, Its something all parties have done and will continue to do, to spin the positive. Growth is up partly due to profits made in chem oil industry , they are seen to be investing more.
| The economy has grown... despite the Iran war on 09:24 - May 15 with 704 views | OldFart71 | It is easy saying the economy is growing and pushing figures out but by what means is it growing ? and which part. Is it because people don't have the disposable income and are putting their outgoings on loans and credit cards. The figures for NHS waiting lists has according to reports also come down. Again I ask how. Is it because the NHS sends out appointments way in advance. Or doubles up on the same appointments. When governments of any party want numbers down they stamp their feet and demand these figures to be reduced. When I ran an Engineering stores the whole factory and the various departments were requested to stocktake so many items per week. Most departments were coming out at mid nineties. My stores, because they were available to the plant all hours of the day and night when no stores person was in them was running in the mid 60%. My boss said he would prevent fitters from going beyond the front counter if the figures continued that low. So I would stocktake a few days before the actual stocktake was due, adjust the figures and hey presto we were in the mid nineties. So I take figures with a pinch of salt. One year during the Tories reign they stopped the Triple Lock for pensioners because it is based on three things. Inflation, wage growth or 2.5%. They claimed wage increases were running at 6% and couldn't afford it, so they gave pensioners around 2.3%. But the 6% wage increase was widely disputed. Therefore I will always take whatever a government says, whichever colour it is with some scepticism. | | | |

"So I take figures with a pinch of salt." The methodologies are available if you are willing to look for them, why not look for them, see if you agree with them and then make a decision? Just dismissing them as they don't suit your narrative is something that many are doing and something that is leading this country towards some real issues. SB

I don't disagree, I was more commenting on the fact that the factions within the party seem more hostile than from outside sometimes. Who needs enemies when you're all tearing each other apart? It's always been the way. Dunt/Lynskey are no fans of Starmer and the Blue Labour project at all btw; you've probably got more sympathetic people looking in than you realise. They're just not tribal about it and I enjoyed their series on Socialism anyway. I'm not a fan either - Blue Labour/Labour Together's takeover and purge of the left was brutal and they're obviously to blame for the backlash from the members who've left and left-leaning voters who've deserted them. When John McDonnell said they were drunk with power way back before the GE, he's been proven since to have been spot on.

No it doesnt mean spending is on credit cards. Growth is based on GDP not expenditure and debt. Not going to bother with the rest. You can become more knowledgeable with 5 minutes on google, but clearly have no interest in that.

surely the point of stocktaking is :- 1 present a correct valuation of stock for accounts valuation purposes 2 identify if stuff is being pinched or not booked or invoiced out to jobs correctly 3 ensure stock is actually available to be picked to keep the wheels in motion. Faking the figures undermines all this . Or have I read you wrong.

No idea how you got that from my post but then your thought processes are a total mystery to me. Why is a certain element of the forum suddenly so interested in my voting record, especially when it has nothing to do with what I am posting? SB [Post edited 15 May 12:28]

If you have 40% shrinkage but you claim only 10% then within three stocktakes (if not sooner) you are going to get found out - because you will still be ordering goods in when the records show you have a 100% surplus and need to cut down ordering in order to have some shelf space...
