If we are in the bottom three at Xmas ….. 21:10 - May 17 with 2641 viewstetchris

Do you think MA would pull the trigger this time and sack KM?

How many free passes will KM be given? OK he is an up and coming young manager, and three promotions in four seasons isn’t to be sniffed at, but we don’t want to be a yo yo club. It’s great getting plaudits for getting promoted, but we need a manager (and players) who can keep us there. If KM insists on going down the route of buying over priced championship players (primarily wide players) and not opening his mind up to further European or South American signings, I can see this being a reality. Based on the knowledge that KM was given the names of many strikers who the club could have signed in January and he rejected them all and instead signing Mehmeti, I just hope that KM alone doesn’t have the final say in who comes in, because based on some of his signings, his judgement isn’t always good imho.

We don’t necessarily need every new player to have PL experience, but I do think we need players with more steel, who have played at a good level abroad, who can see a game out. Granit Xhaka was a great signing for Sunderland, we must look to sign players of his ilk, we also don’t want other PL clubs expensive flops/cast offs either. Hackney is probably one championship player who could step up but I feel that ship has sailed and he will have bigger club suitors. I know the competition to buy good players is hard and Ipswich won’t be seen as a glamorous club by many, but that doesn’t mean we should just buy a championship player because it’s an easier route to take. O.k we do t want t to be lumbered with a lot of highly paid foreigners who we can’t give away if relegation occurred again, so it is a balancing act to find the right player for the club. The signing of Matisuwa has shown it is possible.

I just think the KM/MA bromance isn’t necessarily good for the long term future of the football club. We cannot keep over looking KM’s inadequacies as a PL level manager, especially if we go straight back down to the championship (only playing one way/no plan B). Last time he had a free pass, as the club went from league one to the PL a season too early. The stadium, training ground, and recruitment dept hadn’t caught up with the on field success. Surely MA and Gamechanger 20 aren’t blinkered and realise that keeping KM at any cost (including relegation again) is a better option than staying the the PL long term if we could attract a manager capable of doing that. OK changing manager didn’t work for Wolves this season, but it might work for us if we are in that situation at Xmas, maybe even before then.

As fans let’s not be blinkered either, KM has done well, but he’s no Sir Bobby and until he achieves something more, then a statue outside the stadium is a long long way off. If KM was to leave at some point and he went on to be successful elsewhere, then give him the credit he’s due, but Ipswich is the first club he has managed, if he leaves here and isn’t successful elsewhere then I’m not sure he could be considered to be a great manager. Sir Bobby won the FA cup and UEFA cup during his time at town, but also won titles in the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain, including the treble in one season at Barcelona, and taking England to a World Cup semi final; that’s a great manager, as he had success elsewhere, but there are managers who were great at one club but could never replicate it elsewhere, KM might be one of them!

Didn’t think anyone could make up that level of stupid - you proved me wrong

And btw, I suggest you read, or re-read, the history of SBR at ITFC.

This is ...

... so far off the mark.

There have been no 'free passes'. KmK has been instrumental with taking us from oblivion, to a real chance of being a relevant football club again. Just with a few road bumps along the way.

I don't know how much you know about the Bobby Robson years. I, like many on here, lived through them. He's a legend for me, and I am forever grateful for the years he gave us. You are, however, being somewhat revisionist about his tenure here when you say "he's [kmk] no Bobby Robson". He's not achieved what SBR did - yet, but neither has he had the time to do so. SBR started at Town with the club at a much higher level, with an established side - but struggled for the first 4 seasons. During which time we narrowly avoided relegation.

The rest is, of course, history - but SBR struggled in those first few years, and many fans were calling for his exit. Fortunately we stuck by him, and Town were always a club renowned for giving their managers time - be it in their first few years, or when we hit a road bump. It's often forgotten that we had a poor (relative) season in 77/78 - should we have parted ways with SBR in mid-season - immediately prior to probably the greatest and most successful 5 years in our history?

There is so little patience by fans these days. I'm happy with 3 steps forward, one step backwards providing that is the trajectory we maintain.

I see we're up really up and running on next season's entitlement already with this beauty and the Azeez reaction.

Where were they all when the club really needed support in the dark days?

Bottom three at Xmas wouldn't be a reason to change the manager, bottom three wouldn't be a surprise, should almost be an expectation. Just use the transfer windows as in 23-24 and get ready to bounce back, 4 in 6 and another open top bus to Christchurch Park. What's not to like?

Never forget that on 7th. April 2021, for ITFC, the Game Changed.

On the contrary. If we're bottom three by xmas, it means Ashton's recruitment has been proven inadequate for the jump to Prem again, and the owners should find fresh leadership. KM can turn water into wine, but not sewage (Ben Godfrey) into wine.

Ben Godfrey was a punt that completely made sense at the time , 26/27 2 England caps, played well in the prem.

The only Muff in Town.

Hard to believe you could watch us this season and still trot out the cliche that we only play one way.

It didn't he hadn't played all season and had mega personal issues going on. It was a rather bizarre loan.

Just in general, most managerial appointments range from OK to bad and if you get one that works to the tune of 3 promotions in 4 seasons, then you should do whatever you can to stick with them as long as possible.

Neither Southampton nor Leicester benefitted from their managerial churn post-promotion. Leeds absolutely did benefit from sticking with a solid performer.

"3 promotions in 4 seasons". What happened in the other full season? Southampton didn't benefit from churn and were even worse than us but one of their managers that season did win as many matches at Portman Road as ours did.

Sometimes that's life when you have the smallest wage bill and the least valuable squad in the division.

If we are in the bottom three at Xmas MA should be sacked because he has not gotten the right players into the club.

17th is the target.

He may not have been bought from Arsenal but what is Granit Xhaka other than an Arsenal cast off?

What was Phillips other than a Man City caste off?

Oh, I know. An expensive flop.

Some experienced players are well worth their dough and can make a real difference. But by no means all of them.
