I remember a few years ago a major Rugby tournament where they used some form of drop-in pitch for some games. With 16 big blokes pushing in the scrums, the turf was rucking up like a badly-laid carpet.

Americans normally have much harder surfaces for NFL and the like. Lots more injuries than our softer underfoot pitches. So I guess there only choice is to lay softer pitches nearer to when they are needed.

I'm sure one of our America based people could explain it better.

There are apparently eight stadiums where this is happening opening. There were complaints about pitches at the world club Championship, hopefully lessons have been learnt.
