I assume you weren’t around when SBR left for the England job? That was truly devastating given where we were - even more so than when SAR left. Both trump this by a long way.

Kieran leaving for a break is disappointing and unexpected, but not seismic. This is the end of the beginning, and the next chapter is exciting. I won’t say I’m not sad that Kieran won’t be steering that ship, but I’m excited by the doors this potentially opens.

One thought that occurred to me was that maybe after some 'time out' he'll go back to Manchester United now that Carrick has been confirmed. They have been friends for a very long time, and I just think he might relish working with players that are on average just that bit better than what he's worked with to date.

I can't think of any really famous double acts at the top level since Clough & Taylor, but under Ferguson Man U. did appoint some pretty high-profile first team coaches.

If, as has been suggested, worries about a second relegation have played a part, I can't see that a mid-season appointment will appeal to him. Anything coming up in December/January is going to be all about fire-fighting.

Not a prophet, or a stone-age man; just a mortal with potential of a superman.

When it was confirmed early in July, yes it was well known it was happening. However, when the season came to an end, there was no thought that Robson would not be at the helm the following season but a few short weeks later the bombshell dropped that he was in the running for the England job, and likely to get it. That was devastating and quite unexpected. The fact that it took a few weeks to be finalised didn’t make it any less so.
