My father’s dad was a Frederick and my mother’s brother was a Fred.

My buddy had a dog the size of a Shetland pony called Fred too. He took it to his house in Ireland with his GF and to make Fred comfortable on the journey to Holyhead gave it a calming tablet.

It didn’t go well. The dog had a violent reaction pebble dashing the entire inside of the car. Hosed it down. His other little dog called Jack wound up on his head dripping the brown stuff and yelping in terror while the gf threw up.

When they reached customs, he wound the window down and the Officer approached then reeled away gagging. He could have had anything stashed in that car - nobody cared.

That’s Fred’s for you.

Funnily enough my grandad went as Frank. Goodness knows why. He did have a series of wired haired terriers, all called Chum, not Fred.

I don’t miss my grandad’s dog Chum (the last one) either. It had a temper on it and used to rip the @rse out of the Postman’s trousers given half a chance.

It also would run off if you took it for a walk /let it off the lead in Christchurch Park, disappear into town to find its lady friend terrier. It’d do what needed to be done then get the bus back on its own. It was well known for it.
