| Starmer set to resign on Monday on 20:28 - Jun 21 by jasondozzell | The country is in crisis. Small dashboard data improvements is very end of 90s New Labour. It's not going to cut it. We need a politics that can imagine a different future for this country. Competent managerialism is not enough. |
If you're characterising that as a "small dashboard data improvement", then you're dismissing the unfortunate fact that people do care about that issue, because Reform have convinced them to care about that issue. Your stance will get Reform in, but it won't be for the reasons you think it is.

Frankly we all need to do whatever we can to ensure that Farage cant take advantage of all the split loyalties and chaos in British politics now. Its alarming that people's tribalism sets them against that obvious goal. |

| Starmer set to resign on Monday on 20:44 - Jun 21 by BackToRussia | It is a pretty common strategy for Labour centrists to wave the prospect as PR as a possibility when they want to get elected, and then pulling up the drawbridge once they get elected. Didn't Starmer do the same thing? The problem with this entire strategy is that Labour have been imitating Reform, so the choice isn't actually stark any more! People will just abandon them for clearer options like Green and Reform. It's a dereliction of the basic duty of a party, to distinguish itself from others. |
Whatever you think of Starmer or labour, the idea that there is not much to choose between them and Reform is utterly absurd.

The PM is resigning and it's a non story because of how absolutely dreadful he's been. The same people who backed him are now telling us Burnham is the answer. Forgive me for being cynical!

Perhaps they should not have staked their entire political futures on policies that are a centrist version of Reform's then.

If your constituency is a straight battle between Labour and Reform, a vote for the Greens is declaring neutrality.

I'd say it's a positive choice for the Greens, actually. Look up Kant, the categorical imperative.

Only one choice would hurt Reform. No one cares if an MP wins with 21% of the votes or 91%. Your Green vote would be a footnote in history. I really don't want to vote Green. If that's the choice though, and the Greens are the only ones who can stop Reform in Ipswich, then I will. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think that logic, forced upon us by a ridiculous electoral system, has caused many of our political problems over the last century or so. People need to start voting for who they actually want to see in power. It is also completely on the political class for not instituting PR because it suits them not to. If Reform get into power we will take that as it comes, but let's be clear, some of the policies instituted by the Tories and Labour in the last 30 years would be completely within the Farage playbook.

It's very unlikely we will ever jump from where we are to where you would like to see us. Burnham is a step that way. I respect your stance but it will be no good the left being angry at Reform voters as Farage is on the news grinning if you don't help stop him.

And there it is. The hard left, and all the reasons they never get what they want. Its because reality is some poor second to ideology, and ideology more important than real world progress. Dont complain when Farage gets in. Just keep on shouting from the sidelines about how everyone is wrong, and give up any chance of PR. [Post edited 21 Jun 22:02]

Winter Fuel allowance - Yes went about it in the wrong way but Retirees enjoying multiple holidays, motorhomes and a party party party daily lifestyle do not need WFA. It was the right policy just needed delivering differently. Mandelson - His major gaff. Inexcusable but an appointment made to take on the similarly tainted USA administration. Sadly backfired and probably the beginning of the end. Never here Kier - Necessary to deal with unravelling World issues driven largely by America. Performed very well and will be missed. Immigration - numbers well down - But don't let the Daily Mail and a rubber dingy photo distort the truth. If I was Burnham Id probably go for a GE straight away and secure a new 5 years whilst his stock is so high. That may be the thing that finally kicks Reform into touch and recalibrate a frustrated right wing media. Alternatively I fear Burnham will be eaten away at in the same way Starmer has and in 3 years Reform will still be ready to pounce.

"Retirees enjoying multiple holidays, motorhomes and a party party party daily lifestyle do not need WFA. It was the right policy just needed delivering differently." That wasn't true of my in-laws who were just above the Pension Credit limit and had to rely on us giving them money to pay for things like washing machines, car repairs, stair lifts etc. And it bit home the further north in the country you went, given the colder climate there. If it were to be introduced, the threshold had to be much higher, say, £35,000, which is what they finally settled on. And extremely bad politics, as befitted someone (Starmer) with no real political nous. [Post edited 22 Jun 8:04]
