Starmer should get the lectern out, and just say, look you elected me to carry out this manifesto, you aren’t ordering clothes from Shein, the 6th largest economy in the world isn't changed overnight, just cop onto yourselves, right I am going back to work.

The Labour Party don’t deserve Starmer. Absolute joke he’s going two years after a landslide victory.

We live in a parliamentary democracy, it's well within the right of MPs to just choose a new prime minister. If people want to have a directly elected President, well, they should campaign for that.

I assumed it was him, but Mason said "people" I think, so wondered if it was another group. Point stands. It could be Thatcher or Fartage standing down and I'd feel the same way about having some bleedin' dignity.

Yeah I know, it is also the responsibility of MP’s not to be scaredy cats, and base decisions on popularity contests.
| Starmer set to resign on Monday on 09:52 - Jun 22 with 751 views | grow_our_own | Listening to Starmer deliver his list of achievements in the last two years, and being forced out on the back of them. Country is ungovernable. Democracy without information is impossible. Social media and indeed media would prefer chaos for clicks and ratings then stable, steady, improvements in public life / policy. Burnham will face the same set of problems/constraints, just with a northern accent. And northern England seems to be the only place in the UK that matters any more. If resuming the PM carousel will keep Reform out at the next election, it will have been worth it. But we're setting ourselves up for yet another false dawn. Seventh in 10 years. By recent standards, Starmer, a decent, good man, was an excellent PM. Genuinely improved the country for the first time since the aftermath of the financial crash. [Post edited 22 Jun 9:55]

As Reform and their candidates come under greater scrutiny, as seen in the Makerfield by election, they are going to fall in the polls. Labour MPs should have shown some backbone and not worried about their own jobs.

I don't think the idea that he's 'decent' is at all sustainable. No decent man appoints Peter Mandelson. No decent man states that Israel has the right to cut of water and power to an occupied population (a war crime). No decent man campaigns to be leader of a party with a list of 'pledges' he has no intention of fulfilling. No decent man gives speeches demonising immigrants drawing on the language of Enoch Powell.

Starmer's fundamental mistake was in choosing the wrong person as Chancellor. Choice of Chancellor (or Shadow Chancellor) is THE fundamental clue as to whether any leader of the old 3 main parties is going to be successful for me - kind of have an immediate instinct & reaction. Knew what would happen with Corbyn as soon as he picked John McDonnell.

Of course history will kind to him. The labour left losers won’t be but they are seemingly happier being in opposition than having to compromise in power.

'The labour left losers' Pathetic. It's your man. With all his appointments. With an apparently huge mandate. And they have completely screwed it up through revealing their normal selves. Own it!

Whether you like how he put it, the point he makes is absolutely sound. Better to be on the outside shouting about how everything is wrong, than have to have your own approach actually face contact with the real world.

Total nonsense I'm it afraid. But keep telling it to yourselves to feel better. This was the obvious outcome (so obvious anyone with half a brain could see it coming years ago) of a wretched project built on wrecking the party, getting the important people their jobs back, cosplaying 1997 and lying to the public. Own it!

Is Starmer's incredible unpopularity with the general public and inability to manage his own party not also about 'contact with the real world'?

starmer got corbyn and his anti-semitic mates out of the party and you're very bitter about it. it's ok, we get it.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |
