| I think its a genius move... 08:47 - Jun 21 with 2330 views | tractor_lady | GoN gets a 12 month deal, we finish this upcoming season lower mid table, KM returns from sabbatical season after and we win the title (and maybe FA cup too) beautiful! please be kind heat affects us all in different ways 🤔😂😂😂 | | | | |
| I think its a genius move... on 08:53 - Jun 21 with 2262 views | Blue_Heath | If that happened would rather keep GON (cue the downvoters) if he got us to mid-table that would far exceed expectations in my book and surpass what KM achieved. L1 and Championship is relatively straight forward if you have the cash. The PL is brutal. | |

Agreed. KM has proved himself to be an outstanding lower league manager (League one and Championship). His record in the PL is suspect at best. Nine straight home defeats - dreadful at any level of football.

I worry that the context of that season in the Premiership is being forgotten. The record, as you say, is not good, I cannot see anyone arguing against it. I think we need to remember that we got there a lot quicker than intended, neither the Club itself or the playing squad were ready. It's interesting that Ashton didn't sack KM, rightly so in my opinion. I do not think any manager would have kept us up. So, yes, his Prem record is poor but the context is important and that shouldn't be forgotten.

That season would have been much different if we had the central midfielders to effectively double pivot. I think the recruitment was more of an issue than the management, and whoever that falls on ultimately is something only known behind closed doors. To the OP. I know your post is jokey, but the one part I hope is right is that Gary O Neil is on a shorter contract. He's got everything to prove and if he's unable to prove it we need to not be saddled with a the financial drain of a defective manager getting the sack. We already had to bankroll one ex-canary for far too long

"Championship is relatively straight forward if you have the cash"?! complete nonsense in any case, we were at a major financial disadvantage in the first of our 2 promotions. no need to rewrite history

"got there a lot quicker than intended, neither the Club itself or the playing squad were ready" - Bournemouth raced from L1 to Prem and stayed there. It is possible if the club has good leadership, player research, and negotiating ability. That ain't Mark Ashton.

Mark Ashton’s network is seemingly limited only to people in his former Bristol City and/or WBA circle We will never get someone like Hurzeler, Le Bris, Iraola, Jakirović etc as long as he’s in charge Or players from foreign leagues unless pushed to us by their agents But plenty here will still clap for him regardless | | | | Login to get fewer ads

💯 and if it does go Pete Tong Ashton leaves with him! I do believe he has what it takes to keep us up, it wont be pretty but the hope is we can then attract a better calibre of manager to progress onwards...

I think Leicester and Southampton would like a word with the poster claiming the Championship is easy if budget's available. Brum and Wrexham might also want to stick their oar in.

Plucky Bournemouth were promoted to the Championship in 2014 after 4 seasons in L1. They then took 2 seasons to get to the Premier League. In 2020 they were relegated and spent a couple of seasons getting back to the Premier League. They sort of raced, but not exactly at F1 levels and despite large dollops of Arab money took a while to establish themselves. They have done well, but let’s not pretend it’s easy or instant. Nor is getting out of the Championship, unless you get relegated and leave it that way. Leeds, Leicester and the binocular boys at Southampton will testify to that.

The Championship is notoriously difficult to be successful in, having money is never a guarantee and clubs have crippled themselves trying to play money ball (Derby etc)

Bournemouth had a year to stabilise in the Championship and then spent loads of money on promotion. We signed Lewis Travis & Kieffer Moore on loan deals. Lots of rewriting of history going on. What we achieved was phenomenal, the year in the Premier League was a free hit and the most important season was last season. I think that was the biggest achievement of Kierans time here, because the squad didn't look up to it at all for 2/3 of the season.

That was over 10 years ago, the PL is far tougher and much wealthier than when Bournemouth first got there. Context is everything.

Yeah he’s so terrible he found our best manager in a generation, and led us to 3 promotions in 4 years. It’s fine to not like the guy but suggesting he’s a poor CEO is ridiculous. The club is completely transformed in finances and infrastructure.
