I’ve said for decades now that the UK should have been doing far more green tech for a lot longer than we have been - we could have based a growth economy on it via global exports, a bit like the first industrial revolution.
However, someone raised the valid question about the value of our net zero campaign when weighed against the greater emissions of China. There were some replies to that, but none that addressed the also greater emissions from other countries, so I asked it. You could have answered that, but instead chose to go in for a bit of cheap point scoring. I had thought you were better than that. | |

The UK quite likely would be, in isolation. This country is very well supplied with climate, terrain and soils for arable farming. I was talking on a global scale. Many other places are not so favourably positioned.
It's why western Europe, eastern China, India's great river valleys and Mesopotamia (with irrigation) were agricultural powerhouses in the ancient and medieval worlds, while a lot of Africa, the Americas and much of Asia weren't. |
There'll be a few countries with unfavourable conditions for arable farming, but I'm fairly sure that globally we would require far less land to feed the total population than is needed for what is essentially highly inefficient and resource intensive livestock farming. To be fully plant based, you'd realistically still need extensive transport of foodstuffs to meet demands for unseasonal products anyway. It's no block- certainly no more than the existing blocks of the same type involving animal farming and product transportation. |  |

If I was a poster who started multiple threads on climate change and then didn’t make individual choices in my life that would reduce my carbon footprint then you’d have a point. But I don’t. To my knowledge I have never started a thread on the subject.

is a poster I like and respect. For the past couple of years I’ve been trying to nudge him into a meat free diet as I know he is passionate about the subject of climate change and as a former carnivore myself, I think he would find it an easy choice to make. Also, the language I used, “eating the flesh of dead animals” was meant to be hyperbolic and slightly tongue in cheek. I have eaten “the flesh of dead animals” for all but three years that I have been on this earth. I had plenty of opportunities to go meat free before then, especially as my wife has been meat free for twice the time I have, and the numerous conversations I’ve had on here regarding the subject with dedicated vegans like Herbivore and eireblue, both of whom can put both the moral and health related case for a meat free diet far more eloquently than I could.
To my knowledge, NthQldITFC has never taken offence at my replies to him. If he has, but remained silent, then I apologise to him. But I believe your condemnation of me on this thread, and worryingly every thread I voice an opinion on, is less to do with NthQldITFC’s feelings and more to do with this unhealthy obsession you seem to have developed towards me and certain other posters recently. When you gunning for somebody you are all over their threads like a rash.

The initial post was made on the same day along with others who pointed out the hypocrisy, no surprise that you ignore those posters and jump straight onto my response though.
NthQldITFC did agree that he should eat less meat but he also agreed "ten times over," with my reply to you around the aggressiveness of your responses and also the emissions you make that you decide to ignore. Perhaps you don't realise how aggressively you came across. A number of other posters also pointed out how aggressive you were but I guess we are all wrong.

An incredibly thing to say given you and your comrades literally bullied me off the forum not that long ago and you've done it to plenty of other posters as well. People have seen through you, the amount of push back you get from a number of posters should tell you something is off with your posting. You carry on pointing the finger at others though. Thanks for your medical expertise, perhaps I couldn't sleep that night (struggling to see what this has to do with my posts on emissions). You spend virtually all day on here arguing usually but I wouldn't presume to tell you that was bad for you, it's up to you what you do. Once again, a number of posters have taken issue with the fact you were telling people what to do and whilst having very large emissions of your own (Dolly originally pointed this out but you've not gone after him - another poster you've repeatedly attacked on this forum). The fact you can't see how your posts come across is on you. Nobody said you couldn't go, in fact I said you can do what you like but it doesn't change the fact you were aggressively laying into people about emissions then literally 12 hours later were flying long haul.
