perhaps he was an emissary from god bringing news of our first summer signing?

| Got a knock on my door 1am Monday morning on 14:16 - Jul 1 with 4547 views | baxterbasics | No issue with a bit of food and drink if that's all they are asking for. But sadly you have to be so careful too, it's a stranger at your home after all. You don't know what ulterior motives there might be. Even if he's genuinely desperate, that doesn't rule out them taking an opportunity at you or your family's expense. I had a weird one about a year ago. I live on the same road as Suffolk police HQ in Martlesham. One night about 11:30pm there's a knock. A young man asking if I would phone for a taxi for him. He straight up admitted he was 'County Lines', from London, had just been released by police following arrest and interrogation, and wanted to get back home. The police confiscated his phone, didn't offer any assistance to get home, but did chuck him a £20 for the taxi (think the last 66 bus had already been). So I order the taxi, get him a drink which he'd also asked for, and stood chatting with the chap until taxi arrived - not so much out of kindness, I just wanted to make sure he actually got out of there. The whole time I'm thinking "is there something going on here that I should be wary of, am I and my patch being cased out for some future intrusion?" He seemed happy to not only tell me about his line of 'work' but even showed me the drugs he'd kept in between two pairs of socks which incompetent plod had managed to miss. It's generally a quiet and safe area, obviously, but would be nice if the police didn't just let the undesirables spill out the door to find their own way home. | |

| Got a knock on my door 1am Monday morning on 15:32 - Jul 1 with 3903 views | _CliveBaker_ | I'd be fooking fuming at being woken up at 1am on a Monday morning tbh. Guess they can do it next week, hopefully I'll be up anyway watching England take on Mexico. Hard one to be fair. I'd like to think I'd try and help, get them a drink or whatever but sadly you can never know someone's motives. I did offer a banana to a homeless person in London once and he said 'what the fk am I meant to do with that?'. I didn't know what to say other than 'eat it, dickhead' and dropped it next to him. Ungrateful prick. | | | |

True, but it could be worse BO. You could be reduced to knocking on strangers’ doors at 1am desperate for food. #firstworldproblems

| Got a knock on my door 1am Monday morning on 16:08 - Jul 1 with 3451 views | Swansea_Blue | Good on you for helping, but it’s not an easy decision to make especially at that time of the morning. I opened my door one morning to an obviously distressed woman who then spent many hours in my kitchen telling me how her husband raped her, while waiting for the police to arrive. Who ultimately didn’t do anything as she didn’t want to make a complaint. It’s good to help, but not always straightforward. | |

In response to your first line: at 1am?! I'd be in the land of nod at 1am on a Monday, and even if I were awake I certainly wouldn't be answering the door at that time.
