| Umbro - Why are their Town kits so poor? 21:16 - Jul 1 with 2564 views | ITFC_Essex | Having seen the great Congo kit tonight, great colours, great details (on both sides of the shirt!), and a decent neck I looked on with great jealousy having seen our leaked home shirt for next season, which looks like the unwanted love child of our 1994/95 shirt with the one from 23/24. I have to say, that's the worst one they have made for us yet and no wonder people are desperate for us to drop them! I know it’s subjective but for me, it looks awful! Then I thought, have any of our Umbro kits since switching actually been that good? Last year’s home was an average retro-core shirt, the red away was an abomination and the third didn't even have a proper badge! The three from the Premier League were also pretty bad to average at best. I guess the orange/white aways from the Championship were good, but the home that season was average with a 70s PE kit collar tact on for some reason, same with the season before, the 91/92 throwback, pretty average. That red/black barcode kit was also really bad too. Have Umbro been phoning in our designs since taking over? Because the ones used by other Umbro clubs generally haven't been as bad as what we have been served up. [Post edited 1 Jul 21:17]

I don’t understand your issue with the Suffolk Punch instead of the badge on the third kit either. Thought it was a nice touch.

I am actually surprised that there's a lot of love for the Umbro kits on here, I genuinely think they have been rubbish and last seasons three were probably the worse... yet! For me the only two good ones they have produced are the orange and white aways from 2023/24, with the rest being average or very poor like last seasons. That red away taking the crown of being the absolute worst, next to the maroon/gold away we never used from the season before.

I am again genuinely surprised by this. I don't think they are good at all, or much better than Adidas, although those were just generic kits any one could order with a Town badge added. Also ours are technically templates with just a unique front, the backs in most cases are never printed are they? I noticed that Congo's shirt was printed all over with the cool design, unlike our one siders.

The Congo shirt would look very different on the reverse under Premier League rules - If a kit features heavy striping or complex patterns on the back, clubs must use a solid-color patch in the "Number Zone" so that player numbers remain legible to referees and linesmen

I believe it's called having a different opinion, I've quite liked the last couple of years, and I really like the maroon one with gold writing, even though it reminds me of an arsenal kit for some reason | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Our first Umbro shirt was a work of art, and for me has gone downhill since. Although, I'm not overly enthused by Nike.

I’ve found the shirts have been shrinking over time too. It’s all to do with saving costs on materials to eke out maximum profits from child labour sweatshops through a neoliberal attack on the values of humankind I reckon.

| Umbro - Why are their Town kits so poor? on 09:45 - Jul 2 with 1683 views | PhilTWTD | What I've found a bit odd about Umbro's Town shirts is that for the last two seasons they've been based on classic Town Adidas kits and we've never had one paying tribute to the Umbro kits we wore in the 1970s. | | | |

I wonder if the new one will pay homage to the 76/77 shirt?

Edited for you I’ve found the shirts have been shrinking over time too. It’s all to do with cheese & biscuits.
| Umbro - Why are their Town kits so poor? on 11:43 - Jul 2 with 1268 views | SWLondonBlue93 | The Umbro era of kits has been much better than the Adidas one that preceded it. The 22/23 season in particular was a fantastic set of kits in my opinion, but my overall favourite is the claret away shirt from 24/25. The set of kits from 25/26 wasn't the best but still better than the latter-day Adidas ones. | | | |

Adidas 80's and Umbro 90's trump them overall, but agree they've been a very decent set. Far exceed any Punch, Mitre, adidas tripe we've had to suffer over the years.

The 1986 home shirt is a personal favorite of mine. Whilst not a fan of GK shirts in general, the red 85 is lovely. https://www.footballkitarchive

That was like 20 years back tbf :) On the whole umbro have been better than what Adidas were giving us imo, though I kind of feel thia setup with CA that Umbro have we are basically back in that Adidas cookie cutter template mode I mean did you see Dan Neil's picture in the "Umbro Rangers" kit... And i didn't like last years home or away kits, 3rd kit was alright as something different. Prem league kits I liked, 23/24 were alright. But there arent many I think of as kind of top tier memorable kits that will be looked back on a decade from now as anything special

The only two adidas kits that were any good were the ones from 2019/20 and 2021/22, and that's because basically they were the same shirt. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic https://www.classicfootballshi Both better than any of the Umbro ones to me, actually modern sports design. The Umbo ones are just poor retro-core efforts to me.

Agreed. I also commented the other night that Congo have been brilliant this world Cup but that they have by a mile the worst kit in the tournament. I can't understand how you could hate all our kits and like that monstrosity.

A Magical Vegas kit surely couldn't ever be considered good surely. Dark times.
