| Mexico England on 21:59 - Jul 3 by Trequartista | They must have the best weather forecasters in the world because normally they can't accurately forecast storms that are 6 hours away, never mind 50 hours. |
Weather forecasting is much more reliable on large continental areas compared to a small island like the U.K.

| Mexico England on 21:47 - Jul 3 by Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | More lightening in the area means more weather delays! Happened in the one game it affected in the Euros in 2024 as well. Not really sure what needs to be explained! |
That was due to the lightning and not the heavy rain then? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo So it is all lightning anywhere near any international tournament match? So will it now apply to domestic ones too or are they less important? I thought you were convincing me that the intensity of lightning was the issue rather than the presence of it at all! I am back to being confused but it really doesn't matter. Someone with more influence than me has made the decision for whatever reason.

Lightening within in 8-10 mile radius I believe, then usually a 30 minute clock after that until it can restart. Pretty sure it’s the same in MLS/NFL/Baseball all of which I’ve seen similar delays. Must be some science in that and probably all easy information to look up. Summer is the main storm season so the chances are increased. So far hasn’t affected this competition as much as I thought it would, think I remember it happening a bit more frequently at the Club World Cup. There obviously loads less storms in Northern Europe than North America in June/July so the chances are increased. I guess look up the UFEA regulations and see if they’re hugely different if you’re that interested?!

| Mexico England on 00:39 - Jul 4 with 481 views | The_Major | It'll be fun and games if they have to have a thunderstorm related interruption or delay that means the end of the match goes beyond 5am.....best of luck with that scenario, pub staff. | | | |

Pity. Probably the one and only time I was supporting FIFA over national FA’s. If there’s a storm now and a delay some people are going to look very silly.

No it’s not a pity, moving a World Cup much logistically in under 48 hours is insane for a number of reasons.

Yes and it’s still a pity for a number of other reasons. The level of pity depends on who and where you are.
| Mexico England on 04:08 - Jul 4 with 376 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I knew something else was up! The weather apps were never calling for such drastic action! It was crowd control and safety concerns. I personally hadn’t heard too much about this in the media but four Mexican fans tragically died in a crush following their celebrations after the Ecuador game. Let’s hope everything goes well from a security standpoint. I love that city but it always seems chaotic! I can’t imagine what Sunday will be like. Source: The Athletic. [Post edited 4 Jul 4:08]

Yep, Plenty of England fans will be arriving in Mexico City on Sunday and would have missed a moved kick off and/or had to try and change flights... Indeed would imagine some probably have incurred costs moving flights forward in a panic yesterday...
