⚠️Monaco is pushing for a new loan of Simon Adingra (Sunderland)

đź’° AS Roma and RB Leipzig are concretely positioned, just like Ipswich and Hull City for a permanent transfer

🔨 West Ham is also keen on him! Despite the relegation, discussions have ALREADY taken place between the player and the Hammers

Another interesting link to follow and we'll wait and see what comes of it.

It's also interesting to note that the only player that Sunderland signed last season from another English club, being Brighton, is the player that they're selling straight away again this summer. And he didn't even manage a full season with Sunderland having been loaned to Monaco in the January 2026 transfer window.

Sunderland's signings last season are listed below for reference:-

Habib Diarra from R. Strasbourg €31.50m
Simon Adingra from Brighton €24.40m
Enzo Le Fée from Roma €23.75m
Brian Brobbey from Ajax €20.00m
Chemsdine Talbi from Club Brugge €20.00m
Nilson Angulo from RSC Anderlecht €17.34m
Noah Sadiki from Union SG €17.00m
Granit Xhaka from Leverkusen €15.00m
Nordi Mukiele from PSG €12.00m
Omar Alderete from Getafe €11.60m
Robin Roefs from NEC Nijmegen €10.50m
Jocelin Ta Bi from Maccabi Netanya €4.00m
Melker Ellborg from Malmö €3.45m
Bertrand Traoré from Ajax €2.90m
Reinildo Mandava from Atlético free transfer
Arthur Masuaku from Besiktas free transfer
Marc Guiu from Chelsea loan transfer
Lutsharel Geertruida from Leipzig loan transfer
Total €213.44m

That's not to say that he isn't the right player for us and I don't know if there's more behind the scenes as to why he didn't play more at Sunderland.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

To me, without being an expert in the entire Sunderland squads performance last season so just looking from the outside in, it seems like footballing reasons would be the reason that they want to sell him because he doesn't appear to have set the world alight at Sunderland, hence they loaned him out in January and are looking to sell him now, but if they're willing to sell him at a loss compared to what they paid for him that's not to say that he couldn't be a success at Town.

Also I have absolutely no idea if this might be part of the reason why Sunderland want to sell either him or some of their other players but I wonder what impact qualifying for Europe will have on them in terms of having to comply with UEFA's spending cap rules which are stricter than in the PL.

For example the article below explains about this in the context of Newcastle but the same rules apply to all clubs in Europe and the article says:-

"the Premier League's separate squad-cost ratio (SCR) regulations allow clubs not competing in Uefa competitions to spend upwards of 85% of their football-related revenue and net profit/loss from player sales.
Uefa's rules, by contrast, restrict clubs competing in Europe to a 70% spend."

Have we dropped to taking Sunderland's cast offs!

I don;t know anything about the lad - see he's at the WC with Ivory Coast, ex Brighton, 14 apps, 1 goal for the Mackem's last season then loaned to Monaco

I'm hoping for better tbh.

He was the one who I thought was close to a sure thing in Sunderland's recruitment last year so shows how much I know.

Was loaned pretty quickly to Monaco. Reads a bit like the Fraser situation with us back in L1.
Signed expecting to be first choice, then other signings pushed him down the pecking order.

I doubt it no scouting required as been at Sunderland and Brighton.

Every time I watch Adingra I am always super underwhelmed whilst also thinking there might be a player in there somewhere.

Struggles with the defensive side of the game which was one of the reasons he didn't get on at Sunderland as you can't afford to carry players, so would be surprised if that appealed to us.

Fact is he has played 100 ish PL games and 20 games in Europe which none of our players have or likely will do.

That's where we are at right now, on paper he is an improvement.

I was envious when Sunderland signed him last year but it’s not worked out for whatever reason. Bit like Enciso, there’s definitely a player in there but something has not quite clicked to take him to the next level. Think he did quite well at Monaco

We need a lot of players right now, if he is one of them then that is kind of fine for now by me.

However, when you say it like that it is grim reading.

I'm not sure how well he did at Monaco because I've not read match reports but just going by Wikipedia his stats for last season were:-

2025– Sunderland 14 (1)
2026 → Monaco (loan) 14 (3)

I've no idea whether or not the appearances above were starting games or coming off the bench.

I don't know if Sunderland are looking to sell him or loan him but the tweet above mentions Monaco wanting to loan him.

If Sunderland are selling I can't say I'd want us spending say ÂŁ25m on him given his last half a seasons performance in the PL. But a loan to see what he could do for us might work. However I guess if the rules are the same as they were last time that we were in the PL regarding loans you could only have a maximum of two loans from English clubs (and some extra from abroad) and so if we plan to utilise the loan market that's not a lot of options so you'd have to use those two English based player loans wisely.

There's a videon on Youtube of him leading Strasbourg a bit of a dance - might that say something about our interest?
