" Would you like to point to where I said anything about that? I literally have no idea what you are trying to say at this point. Other than that you are constantly taking the positions which Nigel's voters would take! |
So you agree about the disconnect?

Not really, no. You espouse views as if you have been emerged in an echo-chamber where lots of people say lots of things using very long words, none of which have any real substance behind them, but everyone is very happy to pat each other on the back, and can give each other knowing winks that you know 'the answer' Meanwhile, you have managed to push a thread out to 9 pages whilst no one has actually got to the bottom of what you believe beyond "blame the libs" (a meaningless soundbite if ever there was one), because whenever you are challenged you just start spouting pseudo intellectual nonsense again that has very little basis in fact. But,yeah, keep pushing narratives. It will definitely solve all of the world's woes.

You are over thinking this so much it's painful. People find the fact that Farage has left himself competing against a joke candidate to be funny. And it is funny. The people who do not like Farage are therefore making a big deal of it because it's funny. Binface does not represent anything other than silly British humour. The fact you can't just find it a little bit amusing is a shame. This entire thing has nothing to do with the collapse of society caused by liberal dads, thats a different argument that you have shoe horned in despite not actually wanting to say anything of substance on the topic.

Nope. Because what do you think a venn diagram of the 'adults are back in charge, grown ups in the room' re Starmer people and the 'Binface is hilarious showing up Nigel' people would look like? Centrists are the least reflective people in politics. Still no insight into what happened in the last decade. Still no explanation of why a government with an huge mandate was done in 6 months. It's staggering. [Post edited 11 Jul 0:01]

Oh please. As I said, it's funny Farage is competing against a bin (which literally was what this thread was until you derailed it with your very knowing but substance free comments). Nothing more to be said. [Post edited 11 Jul 0:09]

Don't agree. I think it's lazy. British politics is highly dysfunctional. Why? There's absolutely no reflection at all from those in the centre who got everything they wanted for the last 6 years. Why not?

Quite. I think it’s hilarious that Farage seems hoisted by his own petard (for now) and is going to spend his summer trying to win against a bin. It’s an appropriate level of farce for the farcical, unserious and dodgy Farage. This by-election is simply a joke. It has no bearing on the broader political landscape and tells us nothing about the state of things beyond the obvious Farage trying to escape scrutiny for dodgy funding. The only shame for the people of Clacton who deserve better.

You’re not finding any answers in this joke of a by-election. Either enjoy the surrealism or ignore it would be my advice.

Yep. The acceptance that the centre has collapsed for a reason. Honesty, principles and vision. A reassertion of the power and dignity of the role of the state in an individual's life. A reawakening of collectivism V individualism. Most importantly debate and argument over issues of substance. This will require political establishment and political media to be separated again. I wouldn't call asking for the reintroduction of principles in politics, calling for a reimagination of state power and the end of the revolving door between politics and political media pseudo intellectual. But I suppose it may sound so to centrists.

That's the headlines from Socialist worker. If you can accept that that isn't going to happen in this country (look into its entire history to see why not) try coming up with practical suggestions.

I know you wouldn't, because you appear to lack the faculty to perform any critical thinking of your own, preferring to reject facts for labels and narratives.

No it's not. It's mild democratic socialism and they have it in Scandinavia. Collectivism V individualism as a cultural construct. I'm not talking about communism!

Narratives are powerful. They are how we explain the world to ourselves. What facts am I rejecting? Have you got them there on a piece of paper?

The state hasn’t proved trustworthy with more power though - designating protesters as terrorists, removal of (some) jury trials, compulsory ID, attempting to cancel local elections. How can we ensure that more power to the state isn’t a route into totalitarianism? In my opinion rejoining the EU would be a start, they could potentially overrule abuses. Just a few thoughts as someone concerned with the erosion of our civil liberties, and scepticism around state overreach.
