It was quite odd wasn’t it. And this is in a WC where small teams have had a go and got results. But we lacked the bottle and believe to continue to try and play and looked smaller than those small teams. A very weird end to the tournament, but not unexpected given he’d done the same against Mexico and Norway. | |

Thing is with Mexico, they didn't get anything on our goal so we carried on with what was working.

Agreed. That was my point. We don’t have the patterns of play ingrained that allow us to play through teams or play our way out of trouble. You could see it constantly with players calling for others to move and getting frustrated with each other when nobody showed for a pass or throw in. It’s not a player quality issue, it’s a movement and teamwork issue.
England remind me of us last season a bit. Some decent players compared to their peers, but never quite clicking as a team. To be fair, that’s probably the normal position for most teams. You have to be something a bit special to be greater than the sum of your parts. England certainly aren’t. | |
