Jack Taylor 21:28 - Jul 25 with 4978 viewsnodge_blue

A new video came on my youtube list saying Taylor to have a medical at Birmingham next week. Anyone heard that?

Poll: best attacking central midfielder?

Nothing at all. Wouldn't surprise me though. we don't just need to upgrade the starting 11, but the bench as well.

Poll: If we were to spend £200m would you rather

I am surprised there hasn't been rumours flying around as it would make financial sense to sell.

Indeed, the bench seems to have overlooked by many ( not recruitment I sincerely hope! ). We had players of more or less equal ability in several areas last season, which is why we got away with a lot of rotation and the good use of substitutes. It's even more imperative in the PL. A weak bench spells very big problems, as we found out 2 seasons ago.

Unless we're making a big profit on him he's not exactly one we should actively be looking to offload.

Not saying you're on of them but people constantly write him off, and he's generally proved them wrong.

Poll: If forced to sell one of the following this summer, who would you sell?

He’s 28. He was a low cost purchase which is pretty much fully written off on the books now I would imagine, so any sale now would show a significant profit in our figures. I haven’t checked but is it 2 years left. His financial value to us would be unlikely to be as high as it currently is. His sale would help the rebuilding of the squad. From my POV I’m not writing him off but think a sale would make sense.

If we are in the process of letting him go, then we must be confident of bringing in a couple of CM's. I don't know. I'd be happy to give him a go as a squad player and let him fight his way into the team. Got to be careful of retaining some team spirit. And he was an improving player, although I think he's not PL quality ( do you have to be if you're only expected to get 5-10 games a season?)

It's not that he's proven people wrong, it's more that our recruitment in central areas has been rubbish. His inclusion last season was again because cajuste couldn't play football, and in the prem season it didn't help phillips got injured and cajuste was cajuste version 1

IF the recruitment team did their job in the middle of the park, Taylor wouldn't be anywhere near it.

Like the guy, think he's a solid champ midfielder but if we see him play for town this season, we've again fked up the midfield options.

We would need 3 if he goes.

Can't see anyone paying more than £3-4 mil.

I can't see someone paying much for him, as well.

But if he's 4th or 5th choice CM ... he could be handy for a few games or as a hard-working sub for the final 15 mins. If we have space in the squad then I'm not against him staying here. We' can't keep happy top quality CMs who hardly get a game. We might need players like Taylor for cover.

I would keep him as a squad option for next season.

I would think we’d have a chance of getting a bit more than that, but even £4m would allow for a substantial addition to the squad if we wanted to throw everything at staying up.

Is 4 million substantial in the PL anymore?

But a £4m doesn’t mean we can only spend £4m. That would only be in the years figures. It would allow for something like another £12m signing plus wages on a 4 year contract. It helps our PSR position.

Maybe. It can be a juggling act and I don't know the numbers. But.... he could be a cheap squad player, allowing us to spend more on other options. We're going to need squad players who might not get many minutes.

100% keep him. When playing a midfield three they'll be moments especially off the bench where his attitude will be needed

A players cost would be divided over his contract length - see Chelsea and the dubious 7 year contracts. £4 for Taylor would allow £16 over a 4 year contract. Not saying we should go to the absolute limit but his book value would be all but nothing and that slliws us to spend more if we sold him.

His value is only likely to go down. It seems fairly logical to upgrade to me. Nothing against Jack Taylor but football has become like this

We should keep him. We need to develop some of our own players, this stupid obsession of 90% of the squad is incapable of developing to PL level is crazy. Sir Bob especially will be turning in his grave.

He’s 28. He will be 30 when his contract is up. Developing players is great and we could as easily bring a highly rated youngster and develop him as a replacement if that’s the desire.

Like who?

We don't bring through youngsters anymore. Cam Humphreys was the best bet, but he's likely to move on. Finn Barbrook? Who was sent home early from Lincoln on loan after a few months.

Who, please?

You are clearly forgetting we didn’t bring Jack Taylor through. With extra PSR we could potentially spend £12-16m on someone from anywhere on the world to develop.

. OK...Like Egeli.
Don't think it's as easy or quick as that. I think I'd trust Taylor more to do a workmanlike, squad player job than a prodigy who might take a year or two to find his feet.

If we're looking to offload and bring in cash. I'd go for Mehmeti, Nunez and Akpom before Taylor.

Jack Taylor on 09:16 - Jul 26 with 1462 viewsOldFart71

Taking a realistic view of Jack he basically has had one decent season. If that means we get £7 or £8 million for him then that's a pretty good return.
I do not believe he is Premier league class but that doesn't mean I am not thankful for his contributions last season as with all the previous players of the last four epic seasons.
I'd also like to say a big thanks to KM. Very sad in the manner in which he left so quickly.
I also wish GON all the best in his huge task of keeping Town in the Premier League.

What’s Egeli got to do with it? He is a purchase that may or not pay off. You could have also used Delap or Hutchinson as an example, yet you opted for Egeli.

Let me explain this again.

Taylor is worth nothing on our books. That means his sale is mostly all profit which helps our PSR situation. I think he’s worth more than £4m BTW

His age and contract length suggest his value is more likely to fall rather than increase. I accept that isn’t a given.

His mostly profit sale allows us to spend more.

Another poster said we should keep him and develop our own.

Taylor isn’t one of our own and his sale allows us to buy another squad strengthening player or other younger players to develop, like another Fatawu type for example.

The other players you mention will not add substantially add to our PSR status because they have not amortised to a level to make much of a difference.
