Delap & Emegha available ... 15:20 - Jul 27 with 3093 viewsBellevue_Blue

Delap links obvious, Emegha was injured for a decent chunk of GONs reign but played a key part in conference League run in.

I still think we need an experienced head (Awonyi/ Wood etc)unless the plan is to get rid of Hirst as well.

Delap on a season long loan if the only plan this season is to finish 17th.

He would be the only player we have that we know can score a goal at PL level on a fairly regular basis.

Apparently Chelsea want Welbeck to add experience to their forward options.... would be absolutely ideal for us for a year or so to help bed in some young talent (either of Delap or Guiu imo)... reckon DW would be a great young coach or manager after hes hung up his boots too

Probably against the trend here but after watching Delap run around like a headless chicken for Chelsea last season I’m not sure if coming back would actually be. A good thing for us🤔

I'm with you.

Spends most of his game time fighting with the opposition player closest to him. He could do with a season or two watching videos of Drogba/Shearer, seeing how they used their brute strength to help develop their game, not just have it being the defining "quality"

Different systems, different pressures, different expectations etc. He hasn't become a bad player over night.

Having said that, I do kind of agree with you on the aggression front. I do not know how he got away with the elbow on Spence. Very poor.

Yep, if he'd stayed here and had another season of development under McKenna, he would probably be in a much better place now - he could have been top scorer in the Championship last season, rather than warming Chelsea's bench, and then coming on like a bull in a chinashop trying to prove himself in 10 or 15 minutes.
I wouldn't absolutely say no, but I'm really fed up with playing Chelsea's (and Man City's) stupid games of buyback clauses and sell-ons - they stand to cream off anyone taht does really well, and leave teams with the ones who don't do well. Far better to be dealing with European clubs where we can negotiate better deals, so unless Chelsea were to offer us excellent terms, I'd leave well alone.

Poll: would you rather

Newcastle or Everton would be the sort of club I expect Delap to end up at.

Can't see him wanting to return here.

That's a little unfair - he quite often covered some distance to fight with players not closest to him.

I completely agree. We could do with an experienced PL striker as well and Delap doesn’t tick that box either. He had one good half season with us. He was poor at Chelsea. He’s most definitely not the answer.

Strongly disagree, he knows the club, he knows the area and we know he can score 10-15 goals a season and hit the ground running.

As it stands we don't have 15 goals in the team never mind one player.

You don't have to like him, but we all know he can score goals that are needed to have any sort of chance of staying up.

Can’t see it myself

He knows the club - He knew the club when KMK was in charge, things have changed. And players move from club to club fairly regularly anyway

He knows the area - he was here for a year and seemingly couldn’t wait to get away

We know he can score 10-15 goals à season - not in the PL we don’t.

Like some others feel he’s been a bit of a liability since he left. Not exactly subtle is he?

Not sure if he’s the answer really

Better to stay silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt

Very valid point, he was KM main target wasn't he if i recall correctly.

As it stands we have Hirst, Al Hamadi and a Brazilian player who is about as random as they get and know zero about, so to announce Delap would not make things any worse that is for sure.

Chelsea wasn't the right move for him and he often came off the bench and given 15 minutes, so he should be fresh and wanting to prove a point, at say 30m he'd be as good as we'd get I think, we'll be playing an out of possession game too unlike Chelsea, he ticks the boxes for that role for sure with is physicality..

Wages would be in issue though..

Do you think he's got a genuine affection for this club?

Nothing against him, but I don't think he has. Kieran moving on as well.

Could happen, but I don't see it as one of our own returning.

Do Chelsea want him to go to a club likely embroiled in a relegation fight?

I don't see it myself... I think they'll be bigger takers.

I don't care what he thinks, wants or needs, I want a striker in the building who we know can score 10+ goals and keep us in the PL at the second time of asking. He did it last time with arguably a weaker side around him.

No sentiment this season, we need to be ruthless and get it done.

Chelsea was the worst move he could have made. Newcastle was my choice for him.

Think delap needs to figure out if hes a striker or prefers rugby.

I remember people saying rooney needed to calm down.. but he was more fired up amf passionate whilst he created and scored goals

With delap he spends more time trying to windup players he forgets the sport hes playing.

I would never sign a player based on form shown 2 seasons or more ago, who showed very little in the previous season, mitigating circumstances or not. If any PL club wants to take the gamble and it pays off, well good luck to both. Not for me however. Ref Chuba Akpom, though in my opinion he's never been played in the set up and system that suited him at Boro.

None of you going to talk about the other guy? The 6' 5" dutch international that literally played for our new manager last season and was his club's top scorer the season before?

I'd have Emegha here on loan definitely. Good chance he'd come too I think.

Agree with that, the GON link gives me a little hope. Didn't he captain under him a bit too? Would likely mean a decent attitude as well.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

As people seem to forget. Delap scored as many goals in the 2nd half of that season and he did in the first half.
