| Coventry in for a shock 19:23 - Jul 27 with 8183 views | Cheltenham_Blue | I think, a few of their fans are getting a bit twitchy about the lack of incoming transfers and a narrative has started up that, "Hull and Ipswich need to do far more that us before the kick off, that's why we won the league so easily". I'd argue it's Cov and Hull who need to do the most work, they are also predicting themselves to finish anywhere up to 12th. Quite a lot of naivety over there at the moment. | |

| Coventry in for a shock on 19:28 - Jul 27 with 5902 views | GeoffSentence | Got to admit last time round I thought we didn't need to do much business and had a decent shot at a lower mid table finish. I based this on Burleys first Premiership season. In the end I was shocked at how much the gulf between premier league and championship had grown. Coventry have been away longer, they don't know what's about to hit them | |

| Coventry in for a shock on 19:33 - Jul 27 with 5800 views | BloomBlue | Thats what Brentford did 5 years ago and the PL hasn't changed that much. Maybe they think Lampard can do what Frank did at Brentford and coach most of the players to step up and perform at PL standard. | | | |
| Coventry in for a shock on 19:37 - Jul 27 with 5703 views | armchaircritic59 | Considering we gave them a month or so's start, I wouldn't be quite so bullish if I was them. Sunderland didn't do too badly last season after winning the play off's, never mind finishing top, or second. I would read absolutely nothing into the top end of the Championship last season, it's not very relevant. | | | |

Yep, I was the same. And agreed they could be in for a shock. It’s another level compared to where it was just 6 or 7 years ago, never mind the 25+ years since they were last in the top flight. Miracles can happen though.

| Coventry in for a shock on 19:38 - Jul 27 with 5684 views | portmanking | I think Cov are actually the most exposed team of the 3 promoted clubs. They played a gung-ho, expansive style last season, akin to us in 23/24. As we know all too well, if they don't try to shut up shop even a little they'll be picked off at will week in, week out. | | | |
| Coventry in for a shock on 19:39 - Jul 27 with 5659 views | Nutkins_Return | Some of their fans (like all clubs let's have it right) are being a little bit annoying and talking some absolute nonsense. They also as you say sound very naive about the prem (as we probably were). Where I do think Coventry are in good shape is they have a really good balance to their squad and they have more 'power and pace' type players. From that point of view they don't need to go wild in terms of numbers but what they need to add is .it's technical quality. Defensively they are nowhere near the level. And they would be a few injuries away from big trouble. Indo think if they get 5-6 real quality signings they have a decent chance to go well but they need to get a wiggle on. We showed them what a better team can do to them and they will be up against much higher quality this year (including ourselves). We have had added better balance to our squad and we just need a few real quality players as well but I'd now much rather be in our position. They can't get Rushworth over the line and when they do it will be a quarter of their budget to tread water on last season. | |

Lampard couldn't get Premier League players to perform at Premier League levels at Chelsea or Everton, I doubt he is going to be able to get Coventry's Championship squad to step up such a mammoth amount. They need serious investment. Dreams of a 12th placed finish might be a little misguided, I hope they are in for the rude awakening that we had 2 seasons ago.

I have heard so many pundits on talk sport say Coventry most likely to stay up. They mention the fact they have Frank Lampard. He has had one decent season in about 5 as a manager. Mckenna wasnt enough to keep us up last time, they are in for a shock. Also the fact they won the league comfortably will backfire on them, as I think that was more due to the I consistency of the rest of the top 6. They need many more signings, just like we do.

That's what it seems to be yes. They definitely need to get some work done in the transfer market, or they are going to get picked apart.

Seen this posted a couple of times now. That comparison doesn’t really stand up once you look at what’s changed financially. Brentford went up in a summer when the whole league spent just £1.1bn following COVID and clubs were protecting their finances, so was the lowest outlay since 2015, falling for the second year running. Last season clubs spent over £3bn, nearly tripling what was being spent when Frank walked in. That’s not the same league gently inflating, that’s a different financial universe in five years. While the domestic TV deal is only up 4% the International rights have jumped 18-23% in the same period and now overtake domestic as the bigger revenue stream for every club. So even standing still on the Sky deal, every club is swimming in more cash than in 2021, and that shows up in wages and recruitment, increasing squad depths. Look at what that money’s buying too. In 2021 the marquee arrival was Grealish at £100m and that felt huge. Last year there was Isak at £125m, Wirtz at £116m, plus Cunha, Mbeumo and Gyökeres all moving for numbers that would’ve been British records not long ago. The base level of talent clubs recruit at has moved up a full notch, we’ve already have two transfers at nearly £120m in this window. So the idea Lampard can just repeat what Frank did with similar squad tinkering doesn’t hold. Frank had to reach a standard that hadn’t been massively inflated as a result of COVID stunting club growth, was a perfect time to be promoted. Lampard’s reaching a league that’s had three record-breaking windows thrown at it since. It’s a far bigger gap to close now than ever especially for a club who have not been in the top flight for 20+ years, as we found out 2 years ago.

I agree. Just regurgitating guff from social media feeds, reinventing it as the overriding view of opposing fans purely for a bit of cosy approbation and captive audience faux-rage starts to wear thin after a while…. Anyway, I’m off to see what Norwich think about our transfer business and if they’re taking the p1ss a bit, rest assured I’ll be back to make a proper and song and dance about it.

I think that 'power and pace' isn't really a good read on their squad. And is influenced by a few players up top (Wright, Simms, Mason Clarke). The rest of the squad is severely lacking in both I'd say, particularly at CB and CM.

| Coventry in for a shock on 22:23 - Jul 27 with 3522 views | LegendofthePhoenix | i don't mind admitting I was shocked 2 years ago. I was pretty confident we'd stay up, and thought the momentum we had in the squad would get us through, much like in 2000/01. It was a very rude awakening. Seeing us get absolutely done over at Portman Road time and again was a tough and sobering journey. We are working from a more solid base now. Last season the way we played was preparing a different style of play that would be better for the Prem, and the players GON is bringing in will provide an even more solid defensive unit, and a better counter attacking threat. But despite that, I'd be thrilled to finish 17th. That's the reality. Will be fun watching Coventry's Power and pace in the Prem. Good luck on that one Frank. | |

| Coventry in for a shock on 22:33 - Jul 27 with 3417 views | pointofblue | Coventry's warning should be us turning them over twice relatively easily last season. Like our games against Leeds in 2023/24 - particularly at Elland Road - should have rung alarm bells but didn't. | |

17th is definitely the aim but so far I am not confident we've got enough to achieve it. Enough time still to change that so fingers crossed.
