Why not use, dare I say, a bigger club then? An Argentine journalist has also mentioned we have made contact. Not saying he doesn’t do agents lifting for them but he can’t just tweet complete non stories or untruths all the time otherwise he’d have no cred in the first place.

It might be correct and there’s no doubt he has contacts. He often floods the zone with crap too, so I take everything he says with a pinch of salt. Same with all these def info merchants really.

| Palacios link from Romano on 18:26 - Aug 1 by Parky | Would be an absolutely ridiculous signing, very very slim chance of it happening. He’s reportedly on €145,000 a week… |
Sunderland paid Xhaka 120k as a promoted club, along with a lot of others some very high wages. Our turnover has increased greatly. Risk, reward. I don’t think it would be impossible to structure a competitive contract actually. Our wage bill in 2024-25 was only 50% of our TTV, needs to be a lot higher this time to compete. All that said, I’d be surprised if he chose us (if indeed we are at the table at all, who knows at this stage!). [Post edited 1 Aug 18:38]

| Palacios link from Romano on 18:47 - Aug 1 with 1666 views | itfcsuth | Have to say given the quality of player, along with what will be his salary and fee required, it does feel a very unlikely one. Feels more like agents pushing stories to Fabrizio to generate more noise. Having said that, somebody like Alan Varela of a very similar profile at Porto would be far more achievable, and in my opinion an equally good option. | | | |

We may well have made an enquiry, given the ambition that we have this season, but his agent will be happy for it to go public irrespective of whether he is interested or any real discussions have taken place; anything that drums up more interest in the player is good for them.

We paid just over £100,000 p/w of Kalvin Phillips' salary...

Yeah, who knows. Agents certainly would like the publicity one way or the other. I just have a dislike of the guy as it’s known he does agent’s bidding and is a paid for promoter. All the time playing on fan’s emotions with none of the checks and balances a journalist would have.

I know the financial side is not for everyone but some people are quite misinformed with the current state of play. Looking at our turnover numbers and SCR we absolutely could spend that and more if we desired, doesn’t mean we will, or even means it’s smart but we could. Five years! It will likely be double by then.

That was a loan. If we put this guy on a 4 or 5 year contract that's going to cost us north of £26M for one players salary. Sorry, but not happening until we establish ourselves in the PL.

That is absolutely his style. He's clearly very well connected and is often first to the big deals but he's also happy to put out what people pay him to. Not saying there's nothing in this - suspect we might have asked the question but to me it seems more likely that Leipzig are dragging their heels and the word's being put out to get them to hurry up.

You don’t pay it all in one year mate. I don’t think he would be lining up at Lincoln away next year either if we went down, there is complexity to contracts. Look at Sunderlands 25/26 wage bill. They hadn’t been in the PL for years before hand. We only spent 50% of TTV on wages last time and it will be much higher this year if we want to make a proper go of it. [Post edited 1 Aug 19:12]

Why would someone pay him to put out Ipswich as an interested club for a CL level player. Why not Newcastle for example? Doubt it’s just made up but would be still be rather surprised if he signed for us of course.

No no no as in there probably is some genuine interest from us and that is being used publicly to try and get things moving (in a direction away from us probably!).

If we pay him his entire contractual salary, by definition, we would be established!

Exactly. If you want to compete at this level, you need to pay the wages for the quality of player, and then assume (hope!) that they still have a value and you can shift them if you go down. Yes, you probably end up lumbered with some of the salary, but hugely unlikely that you're stuck with all of it. The problem comes when you pay the huge wages, but the players aren't actually good enough, and you're stuck with them.

This guy is going to be in demand. No way is he having a relegation clause stuffed into his contract. Sorry to disagree with you, but we are not paying somebody £100K+ a week this season.
