| Has Egeli had a jet engine fitted over the summer. on 15:23 - Aug 8 with 6134 views | londonben | He’s not a winger and never had been. Always looked uncomfortable out there. Think it was fair enough to not throw him into the middle last season in his first season in England in a brutal league, but looks class in that 10 position. Add another top midfielder in the middle to replace Nunez and we’ve got a good looking team shaping up.. | | | |

I suspect the lack of patience from some was based on the price tag. Only pre season but he appears to be a totally different player in the middle. On the first half evidence he should be in GON’s plans for next season and not a loan.
| Has Egeli had a jet engine fitted over the summer. on 16:09 - Aug 8 with 5444 views | Waig | When he was signed it was said he was Chaplins replacement with more natural ability and higher ceiling. I think he was shoved out on the right as a stop gap and because of the price tag he almost had to play. He did a commendable job, but now after a season in the Championship and a proper pre season with better players as well as playing where he should be playing we are starting to see why we paid 18 million quid | | | |

I think it was his performances that people were frustrated by, and nothing to do with the price tag.

If he wasn’t in the first team they would have been complaining about £20m being wasted.

Or, if they're an academy product, they think they should be playing every week when the reality is that most of them haven't been good enough.

| Has Egeli had a jet engine fitted over the summer. on 06:15 - Aug 9 with 3180 views | LegendofthePhoenix | Loved SWE's shift yesterday. 4 or 5 times, he tracked back from an advanced position after we'd lost possession and tackled a midfielder to win the ball back and was then laying on precise balls, very unselfish and a lovely assist for Leif in there. If I'm honest, that was the first time he has looked like the player we hoped he would be, and makes me think we should keep him in the squad for the season rather than send him on loan. | |

| Has Egeli had a jet engine fitted over the summer. on 07:19 - Aug 9 with 2942 views | PioneerBlue | Yes but i dont think it is as simple as to say its because he moved position. He has clearly been conditioning differently this summer, he looks faster, fitter, and more agile, combine that with the experience he had last year on the periphery and it seems he has the hunger to deliver more centrally now. I struggle to believe that KMck wouldnt have seen what he saw in training every day and not considered a different role for him although KMck was quite set on players being selected for their primary position and secondary position and that seemed to be for training focus and perhaps squad harmony. GON isnt held back by this whilst he seeks the new best XI and starter finisher group. | |

I disagree. It was everything to do with his price tag and for some a desire to dislike everything to do with last year’s team. No idea why, but that’s how it was. It was blindingly obvious to me that there was a player there.with enormous potential. He was young, in a new country, playing a different standard of football, played out of position to fill a gap in a team that was forming. He needed time and a little bit of patience. I’m looking forward to seeing him play.

Last two friendlies in that 10, he’s got such good awareness of people running off him. Was lovely to see there really is a player there. Not sure what last season was about, but maybe he’ll be trusted with the middle, not for a full season but he looks like a different player and will have a role to play.

No, it was quite simply, he performed incredibly poorly on the right Regardless of why, Mckenna made that choice and with that choice came with critique. Egeli was honestly terrible in that role with the rare goal, some not by a storming run or doing anything of note on the ball, but just hovering around the goal area, which is why most said play him centrally so he was in and around that box more to score those types of goals. There were maybe 1/2 on here who didn't see what Egeli could become. The talent was always there, we saw it on his debut and the first couple of games, pinging the ball around, threading balls through etc. But then he was coached to be the right sided player KM needed as we had no one else at the time and it ruined his season as an individual. Like Akpom, moving into a position this season that plays to his strengths will bring rewards.

| Has Egeli had a jet engine fitted over the summer. on 08:43 - Aug 9 with 2389 views | franz_tyson | I thought he was poor last season and got worse. And he really needed to be taken out of the starting line up as he was affecting our attacking play. That isn't be nasty.... he looked weighed down. And, sorry, that run in was too important and crucial and we had to make a footballing decision to leave him out. I was encouraged yesterday with his performance. I was of the opinion we should loan him out, but maybe we can look at him and see how he develops. It's handy he doesn't add to the squad limit. But, please... its one thing getting on his case and criticising him... but I think too many are going over-board. I'd give him a 7/10. Not a 9/10 and not MOTM. His workrate was much better and he looked stronger and was much improved. But let's see how he gets on after 5-10 PL games. It's a tough league and a massive step up from pre-season friendlies. | | | |

Sorry, I disagree and stand by what I said in the earlier posts and those about him last season. It was more than one or two on here who didn’t see what he might become. Rare goal? Nice put down FB. It was actually four goals and without those it might well have been play offs for us It wasn’t his position and he struggled in games, but he wasn’t always terrible. He was just wedged into a role for the team because at the time there was nobody else to do it.

How can you say without his goal or goals it could have been critical to the play offs? He actually fluffed quite a few chances. As did Azon and others. And none of his goals were worldies. I remember one well taken finish which rescued a valuable point, but other goals were of the bobbly, fortunate nature ( still counts though, i know). All season that right side was weak. And Egeli was part of that along with McAteer. If you're going to suggest his 4 goals we're critical to us getting second spot, you could also put out an argument if we'd used 30 million quid better for 2 right sided attacking players in the Championship we might have 15 or 20 goals combined ( like Philogene and Clarke) .We might even have become champions. It doesn't matter because we got promoted, but we were really weak down that right side and it could have cost us promotion. [Post edited 9 Aug 9:02]

He looked a little lost on the right didn’t he. Possibly lost some confidence too. I expect another season on loan or some more development here playing bit part and we will start to see a player there. Looks decent in the 10 for sure this is his position.

"performed incredibly poorly" "honestly terrible" "not...doing anything of note on the ball" "just hovering around the goal area" Honestly, I just don't know what you watch sometimes. He wasn't great but your assesment is way OTT the other way. Promoted teams don't carry players playing as poorly as you've described there.

Well, the opening goal v Coventry was hardly a scuff and the opening goal at Watford was an on target volley. Not bobbly and if we are to dismiss every goal that isn’t a Clarke/Philogene hammer job, that’s Lineker and Greaves’ career written off. All goals count the same and every player misses chances, even Haaland. Yes, the right side was weak until McAteer settled towards the end of the season. The advanced midfield positions were patchy too, but that was the nature of a new team forming and that right side was certainly not weak by season’s end. When alls said and done, that team deservedly got promoted. The point remains. The money paid for Egeli was for his potential. Other clubs saw it which is why the fee is what it was. That wasn’t his fault. Neither was being bunged in a position that really didn’t suit him. But he did contribute to our promotion. I’ve not seen the pre season games. I hope he’s performing as well as people claim in his correct position.
