Was watching him closely when he came on. I know he didn't score but his movement was really excellent. Very positive and unlucky not to get a goal for me. Like a brand new player moving him to 9 and playing to his strengths.

Again not saying he will start a lot of games but very useful to have. Does seem like Hirst will go.

Agree, does everything right ATM, and the disappointment on his face when it dosent go in says a lot, hirst was the opposite at the end of last season smirked like it didn't mean much to him,
But that could of just been the crowd on his back,
Be very surprised if akpom was offloaded,

Akpom has played as a 10 a lot previously I think.

It is really only Sindre who could feel that he’s been played out of position for an extended spell.

Right now, he’s well ahead of Hirst in the pecking order.

Akpom really is a 9 not a 10. People were saying it all last season. He really isn’t a 10.

He had his best season as a 10 for Boro when he scored the 30 goals. However was it a conventional 10. I would say not. He's not a creative 10. He was maybe more a second striker arriving from a. It deeper.

9 does seem to play much more to his strengths.

Unfounded criticism of Hirst based upon your own prejudices. And it's could have, not could of.

I know a lot of boro fans. All of them say he’s not a 9.

He did play 9 and 10 for us last season.

Either way, what I’m saying is it’s not straight forward with him.

Yep, Akpom himself said his best position is playing off the striker, that’s the position he scored the majority of his goals in his best season. I’ll be very pleasantly surprised if he makes an impact in the prem.

Yes but they will all be basing that on the fact he didn't play as a traditional 9. They wanted him out after his first season there as well. Then he became a god for them 😂

My opinion of Akpom is that his movement is good but his finishing is poor.

He had 2 great chances yesterday. A "smart" striker would have just "dinked" that first chance over the keeper rather than shoot low, where the chances are it's going to be blocked and the 2nd chance, if he'd have glanced up (as most good finishers do) he'd have seen their keeper leaving so much space at his near post it would have been a much simpler finish than to try and go across him, where there was very little free space.

He took the header well against Le Havre, but overall I don't feel he's up to Prem standards. In the Prem, against a decent team, those 2 excellent chances might be the only ones when get in the whole 90 minutes. They simply have to be taken to win games.

IMHO we need to sell Hirst, buy a starting no. 9, with Emersson as backup, with Akpom no. 3

I think George is on his way to Stoke tbh. I honestly dontbthink hes dver fully hl hos mojo back after rupturing is hamstring. He was never a prolific hoal scorer anyway but he was brilliant at linking up the other forwards, but even that appears to have gone now. Only saw glimpses of it at the very end of last season. I think a new club, new challenge might do him the power of good tbh.

Akpom played more as a second striker at Boro. He was never a 10 in the Chaplin mould

No, he's a second striker if we're talking about where he's had his most success. Weird narrative a few of you lot are trying to drum up.

Yes, but playing off the shoulder of the last defender as a forward (or at least being given licence to run at and behind defences), not a ball playing 10. Before he joined us he’d still played more games as a striker than as any sort of a 10.

He’s very obviously a 9.

He clearly wasn't happy here last season. He looks happy now and hopefully that will remain the case. He would be an excellent 3rd choice striker if he is playing to his best.

From his golden boot season. Very much a finisher, not a creator.

Dinking the first one the way it came to him would have been incredibly difficult and at speed. Was a fantastic save. Second one I love his dio of the shoulder and was on his left foot. He looked really sharp and was unlucky.

It's easy to say poor finisher but I'm sorry you don't score 29 goals in a single season at champ level if you are a poor finisher. Chaplin had a very similar to Akpom last season with way more minutes and nobody here would call him a poor finisher. I do think he is a bit of a confidence player for sure. If he gets his mojo and gets service (he actually thrived on crossed for Boro and we couldn't have been less than side last season).
