£40m!! 23:59 - Aug 16 with 4330 viewsLuciBlue

talkSPORT understands Chelsea are demanding £40m for Delap, which would represent a £10m profit for the west Londoners.

And everyone on here was convinced he was worth 70-80M just 18 months ago.

Makes me laugh how a dodgy season at Chelsea and folks are convinced he has lost all his worth. Physical beast, true 9, young English, scored 12 for us in the PL.

Rough year and some maturing to do, if Emersonn is worth 26M is Delap suddenly worth less then Chelsea paid?

They would have had to pay a lot more at the time if he didn’t have that release clause.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Would much prefer Ueda out of Feyenoord. Proven goalscorer at club(s) and international level, now just entering his peak years, and the bonus of teaming up with his Japanese international colleague Maeda. No maturing to do and no dodgy last season. As for what Delap might be worth, I'll leave that for others to decide.

Outside his goal scoring record, is he a hold up style physical striker that can play with his back to goal?

We are going to have quite a pressers (that are short in height) behind the frontman, does he have the profile we need?

Looks like he’s 6ft but thought he was a running behind type rather than hold the ball up but I don’t know as much about him to be honest.

I never thought he was worth £30m, and still dont, especially after a season at chelsea. He's vastly overrsted in my view.

Was it even a mistake? Massive wage and another juicy signing on fee and still gets his pick of some Prem clubs

Possibly so but it's certainly damaged his reputation.

I'd test their resolve up to about £30 mil. I imagine he will go out on loan somewhere. Would take that.

He could have stayed with us and had a lovely old time, got a promotion and be back in the PL again in good form and hopefully full fitness.

But oh no, here comes Chelsea with their 'sales pitch'.

Bizarre as literally everyone in in the world of football thought he was worth more and we only got £30m because that's what his release clause was

Depends on what his ambition was. Cost him a World Cup spot.

…..and their £100k a week for 6 years playing under a manager he had worked with before…..

There will be a queue of clubs willing to pay £40m plus plenty more in add ons….or at the very least take him on a loan with an obligation. Liam will be fine.

He is not going to be short of a few quid even at Town, I would think a then 22 year old footballer would want to play week in week out but maybe that is old fashioned now.

I dare say they’d take break even or less with some potential add ons in there?

Good player in there, at the right price to the right club.

I'd say that's about right. At £30m they secured themselves a bargain by signing him from a relegated team. Lets not forget, he did score double figures in a struggling side, which actually is significant in the Premier League.

I also think it's a bit short sighted of them to be trying to sell so soon after signing him, just because he had one season where he struggled to settle in and was hampered by injuries. I can see him doing much more for them this year, now he's got to know the team.

Obviously we're not in for him, but if you could signing a striker, as a newly promoted team and guarantee yourself at least 12 goals, would you pay £40m? I think you probably would actually. Of course, that is a big "if", and probably the reason why we couldn't justify going in for him ourselves.

Great player in there and it will make Chelsea look stupid.

He would have had plenty of options, it's not like Chelsea was the only offer on the table. What he needs is some wise and experienced heads around him, not the glorified daycare centre that Chelsea have become under BlueCo.

Well Burnley bought one leg Broja off Chelsea for £20m and gave him a five year deal. Given he’s banged in 19 goals in his whole league career including 1 last season. £20m. It just shows the crazy prices strikers can command. Even hopalong ones.

Is Delap worth £40m? 12 months ago he was worth a lot more than that. Young, scored goals in a hopeless team, big, strong, direct, English - what was not to like? As it turned out he’s gone backwards and when I saw him in the Spring, he spent his time fiddling about, arguing and basically not doing a lot.

He needs to move on from Chelsea and given his clear potential, I can see him going to somewhere like Everton for that kind of money. It’s a an annoying cliche but he’s worth what somebody will pay. I’m not a believer in going back (with the odd notable exception) so if we do bring in another striker, I hope it’s somebody else.

Signing on fees are retention based, you don't get it all on day one. When you leave, your forego the rest of it.

Broja's a weird one. I don't think I've ever seen him have a good game, he can't seem to stay fit, and as you say his goal scoring record is pretty poor for a centre forward. On the bench in the Championship yesterday, yet he seemed so coveted at a very high price tag. What's he actually ever done in the premier league to suggest he's a good pick up, and he's 25 next month.

Delap at least seems more robust and has shown his ability with us. I'm not sure if he's worth £40m, but as you say if you put him in the #9 at a club like Everton I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him kick on. Chelsea hasn't worked out, but he's not the first and won't be the last there.

Chelsea are probably looking to get back what they paid, there will be some negotiation down from £40m and when all said and done will be somewhere in the region of breaking even on him which isn't entirely unfair in this market I would suggest.

"west Londoners". 😉

In case we don't know where Chelsea is?

I think this is good. We need more exact geographical information to accompany clubs' names.

"The two signings from Fulham, the southwest London club, on the banks of the River Thames, roughly 3.7 miles from Charing Cross, both started against Union Berlin."
