If players then have a preferred shirt number (like #47 for Clarke) they can have it, but the vacated number doesn't get back-filled.
It just seems stupid to have Palmer as #1, when it seems as if the received wisdom is that he's likely to be third choice if he even stays. | |

Guess Scherpen and Maeda are preferred numbers as Maeda wore 38 for Celtic and pretty sure Scherpen was 37 in Belgium.
