It was time for the change.
Admittedly this is with a far stronger squad, but so glad we're not playing the irritating ly slow pass from keeper to left back to keeper to right back, over and over and over.
There is a time and place for it, but yesterday it was about getting in the oppositions faces, attacking with speed.
I know it's only the first game but it felt like players were being allowed to show a bit of flair rather than sticking forever to a pre regimented system.

I think the Berlin game gained him points with the fans, team looking finalised, good spirit in the camp, smooth transition from the most popular manager of a generation , and getting pushed up to do the fist pumps.i think he’s engaged, knows he’s got a good place to work, patient fans, good backing. KMck leaving at the time he did was always going to be high risk. For any appointment there was / is always risk and starting in the PL with little credit in the bank. He has hardly put a foot wrong media wise, the coaching group looks high quality from the outside. Time will tell once the football pressure starts, the win yesterday was great and maintained the honeymoon period a while longer. It is a results business and there are more difficult times to come, those will be more telling than this moment

To add, a lot of the hard work has been done for him already, he has every resource available to stay up this time. |
Everyone gave McKenna plenty of time in the championship because we had such a new team and busy summer last year and the slow start was kind of excused because of it. Not saying there wasn’t merit to that.
However, let’s not underestimate how hard a job he has one his hands in the toughest league in the world.

I was disappointed when it was first announced.
I was slightly less disappointed after his press conference as he definitely talked a good game.
When I saw us in pre-season and we looked really good I actually started to become quite impressed.
After yesterday, I now have a semi for him that won't go down.
Needs to sort out his resting bitch face though! ha. |

The guy is a breath of fresh air which was much needed, he hasn't done a thing wrong as yet, I thoroughly enjoyed Saturday, the team seem to have a great spirit already, the togetherness is clear to see.
I thought the Football on offer was far more entertaining than the last Two seasons but that's just my opinion and yes it's early days but there was none of this tippy tappy playing out from the back rubbish and Thirty passes where Two will do. Gary O'Neil was not my first choice at the time but he's definitely winning me over big time. | | | |

Which means I thought it was a decent appointment. When it was down to him and OGS any half rational fan surely was praying for GoN.
He's had success and the only obvious question mark was his falling out with Wolves players. But some pretty clear mitigating circumstances there.
Not sure why some quarters felt it was a poor appointment tbh... he's hardly some journeyman manager... and as most right thinking bods would say, support and give them a chance. Maybe it was simply that he's not a) a famous or glamorous 'name' and b) he us not KmK. |  |

It's been a good start, it feels the right "cultural fit" and he seems to seems to have a very astute understanding of the situation he's come into – which wouldn't be an easy one for anybody. The guy who comes in after the legend usually has it pretty tough. So far the optics are good and the signs on the pitch are positive. Very pleased to see it and it's vital he builds up credit early on. [Post edited 24 Aug 9:09]
