| Palacios in the balance and unlikely to go down to deadline day 14:36 - Aug 24 with 11347 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | According to EADT/KOA. Looks like a bit of a standoff and obviously we need to pivot if Leverkusen won't meet us a bit closer to the middle. Crucial 24-48 hours on this one, you would imagine. The fact they brought him on Saturday seems suggest we are still slightly under what they are prepared to let him go for. He is under contract until 2030 afterall! [Post edited 24 Aug 14:38]

| Palacios in the balance and unlikely to go down to deadline day on 14:55 - Aug 24 by Kentish_Tractor | Maybe controversial opinion here, but to be honest, if we've got 30m to spend (and after what we've spent already, thats probably all we've got left), I'd rather we spent it between a new RB and a striker. We are very thin in those positions (I do not count O'Shea as a RB, he was caught out a few times on Saturday), and between Lukic, Florentino, Matusiwa and even Nunez now, I think our money might be better spent there instead. |

| Palacios in the balance and unlikely to go down to deadline day on 16:14 - Aug 24 by ernie | The first goal no one is anywhere near O’Nien he just chooses to pass the ball to Enciso from about 10 yards away. For the winner, Sindre is slowly jogging towards the centre back who then misplaces the pass to Lukic. Hardly forced errors at all. From the point of view of a Sunderland fan they are both sloppy mistakes. |
Yes you are absolutely right. Despite how we forced the mistakes been mentioned by several pundits, and even GoN in his post match press conference as part of how we set up - we just got lucky…

We got lucky.... but we were very clinical and ruthless. They gave us a sniff and we took advantage.

Good thing you have several pundits to tell you what happened rather than what you can see with your own eyes. If we had made those mistakes, everyone would have been slaughtering those players.

| Palacios in the balance and unlikely to go down to deadline day on 22:31 - Aug 24 by Blooos | Baffles me there are people saying things like this on here. Palacios possible going to be our biggest ever signing and yet you’re moaning about it. We were in league 1 4 years ago |
It shouldn't baffle you. You might not agree, but there are genuine concerns. His fitness - injury concerns? He's spent a lot of time out injured. Why aren't bigger, more established PL clubs coming in for him? The early comment ( maybe not 100% verified) that Ipswich were a club not up to his expectations didn't exactly give the impression he wanted to come here. You could well be right and this lad could be a revelation. Just weird that a 27 year old World Cup winner would want to come to us without any competition from any other PL club. He'll be going from a Champions League club to a club trying to avoid relegation. Will he be a good fit? It's all very well saying he could be our biggest ever signing.... but bragging rights can be very temporary. You could say Kalvin Phillips was our biggest ever signing ( even a loan) 2 years ago and turned out to be a disaster. If he comes... I'll get behind him, but I've always thought this doesn't make sense.

Every signing is a gamble. If it wasn't for his injury history we probably wouldn't have a chance but he has the pedigree to make a real difference to this squad. Is he worth the risk? For me, definitely. It may pay off, it may not, but the same can be said for every player.

Fair enough, but you've, at least, admitted it. His injury record. We're going to be paying top dollar and we want him to be the first name on the team sheet for pretty much all the games. How many games can we get out of him? As you say it's a gamble. For me, I wouldn't take that gamble if his fitness is in question. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Not counting internationalls, he's played 165 games over five seasons, which is 33 a season. [Post edited 25 Aug 8:59]

I mentioned this the first time we were linked with him and the concerns on his fitness were brought up (rightfully so), but if he started even half our games, he could genuinely be worth 4/5 points over say 17/18 games. Now...to United, City, Arsenal etc, that's not worth the value as they're chasing bigger prizes, but to us, 4/5 points could mean avoiding relegation, so a WC winner available for 40-50% of our games is well worth it.

This is my take on it too, yes all transfers are gambles, this is an even bigger one than most though, due in no small part to the size of the fee, the fact there were rumours he had no desire to come to little Old Ipswich and the concerns about his fitness. In our situation we just cannot afford to take such an expensive risk, I would rather put the 30 Million together with another say 10 million and get a real quality number nine in the door because all our fantastic work in the transfer market will be tempered by only going with Two recognised Strikers into this season. For what it is worth I have never seen Palacios coming here and I still don't.

We're still missing a number eight. I don't think it should be a case of either or - for me, Ashton needs to stretch the budget for a midfielder and a striker. Not one or the other. If not Palacios then I've low key surprised on the lack of interest in Harvey Elliott at Liverpool and would certainly lodge interest. For a striker, Ueda is still my number one though I will hold my hands up.amd admit I'm not sure if he's the kind of attacker who would fit our system. And maybe both would be too much for us, especially taking into account wages, which is where we'll have to move further down the list. But I'll stand by my view both positions require covering before the window closes.

With the CM signings we've made and ones in the backround, we don't need Palacious to come in and be available for every game. His leadership and ability to be part of the season could make a big difference in certain fixtures.. I think that's why town are a prem club going for him other others, he might not be seen as useable for most prem clubs, they're on different paths, different requirements But for town who at times will need as much experience as possible in certain fixtures, if we can get 15-appearences out of him that helps us win lets say 25 points alone. it's a worth while signing.

Sounds like we're prepared to bend over and are prepared to pay a fortune for someone who will give us only15 games a season. What makes you think 15 games a season will provide good leadership? He'll be earning the most and playing half the games... that will p1ss of the other players. If he comes here for top money, he should be fit and prepared to play as many games as possible. He's 27 and not 35. He's not here to see out his career for easy money. I remember how starry-eyed fans got when we signed Kalvin Phillips. Many thought he'd make the difference.

Of course im throwing a random figure it could be 15 it could be 20, 25 or 30 my point being is, he will be welcome by players regardless of his salary. His wages and the fee paid for him is due to his experience, talent and what it will offer us, however that talent is used it can be priceless for us. You can't compare Phillips to Palacious. I named dropped Phillips that in that summer window as an option as i felt KM would get the old Phillips back, unfortunately, he's passed that stage, we sadly found that out. Palacious however doesn't come in off the back of a poor loan spell and a poor transfer to a club.

Why only fifteen when, as per above, he has played over 30 games a season for six years? Are you a medical expert or have some inside info, or just talking imaginary hyperbole because you can't be bothered to factcheck things?
