Defender - we'll be alright until January. We have 4 centre halves, 3 of whom are right footed, but 2 of those have often played on the left side so are experienced. We will probably play 3 at the back in certain games, so another CB would be preferable, but Furlong could step in if needed
We only have 3 full backs, but Quattaro is versatile & can cover both sides & also, Greaves has always give a good account of himself when moved over.
Midfield - we'll be alright until January. Obviously Palacios would be a Rolls Royce addition, but Luis should be back at the weekend, Matusiwa not long after that & we could hold onto Jack Taylor, who would do a job for us. Lukic looks class & Nunez showed on Saturday that he has what it takes to put in a decent shift in the PL. We need 5 to cover substitutions, suspensions & injuries, plus we may need an extra body in there when playing Arsenal, but we are already much stronger than 2 years ago. Palacios would be a real statement.
Attackers - we'll be alright until January. We need at least 7 & Egeli doesn't count for the 25. Fatawu & McAteer on the right, Enciso, Egeli & Mehmeti (Nunez perhaps) in the #10, with Maeda, Clarke & Philogene on the left. Perhaps an upgrade to McAteer & Mehmeti could go, but overall it's not bad. The 3 who will start are all serious upgrades to what we had 2 years ago (including Hutchinson IMO), while Clarke & Philogene are far more ready for PL football this time.
Centre forward - We can't wait until January! An injury to Emersonn would be a disaster if we don't bring someone else in. Yes Enciso & Maeda can play up front, but how we try to play would change, plus we would badly miss them in the roles behind. Akpom seems we'll up for it this season, but he is going to more more the finisher who comes on after Emersonn or AN Other has battered the opponents defence for an hour +. |  |

As it stands we need a gun CM an experienced 9 and another CB and cover at LB. I’d imagine two of those would be loans. If we lose a first team squad member like Clarke he’d need replacing unless GON thinks Mehmeti or Mcateer can step up.

CF remains the out and out priority - but what we are looking for is incredibly hard to find; a player who improves the squad, ideally with PL or top 5 Euro division experience, can challenge for 1st team, but happy not to be guaranteed a starting spot in the team alongside Emmerson and Akpom (who has so far looked much fitter and sharper than last season).
Not sure the right foot / left foot balance of the defence truly makes any difference - watch the game on Saturday, often the central defenders found themselves on their supposed "weaker" side from their favoured foot and they did their jobs well. The way we play the ball out there will usually be two options, one of which favours the preferred foot, but at top level, most players can play a 10 yard pass with either foot.
Additional CM would be good if we were to move Taylor on (if not he may find a bit part role to play, and having good players around him may step him on a level), and likewise down either flank to move on Ogbene and possibly Philogene.
From a squad perspective, neither Egeli or Outtara add to the 25. [Post edited 25 Aug 10:37]

No, but as very experienced business leaders neither is "paying over the odds" or "panic buying" - based on what I have seen in last few years we won't be held to ransom, we will invest in the right player at a cost which does not put the club at risk either financially or from a team ethos aspect. | | | |
