€27.5m for Palacios! on 21:02 - Aug 25 by nshearman1
Exactly. I'll get shot down for this but I'm not excited about getting in a guy who clearly didn't want to come in the first place. O'Neil has done well to keep the unity in the dressing room while steadily dismantling the previous team. but Palacios could be the kind of personality to really disrupt things if and when things don't go well. And in those circumstances O'Neil has a proven track record in not handling big egos well (Cunha).
You don't think selling the club to someone who is a World Cup winner and wasn't keen on a relegation certainty in the Premier League is a coup?
Him coming and recognising we are better than that could really fire up the dressing room to achieve far beyond what your depressing presumption supposes.

€22.5m, what's that £19m?
Brilliant work MA, didn't give in to Bayer's demands. I'm sure he used the fact no other clubs interested and the player wanted to leave. Bingo.
That is the only thing that bothers me. Why is nobody else after him for that price? Everton, Palace, Forest, Fulham, Man Utd, Bournemouth. They have all lost midfielders this window, yet none are going for him, not to mention all the foreign sides.

I think his injury record has perhaps put them off. He made 43 appearances in 2023/24 and 42 in 2024/25 so doesn't look too bad on paper. He was out for three months last season.

Reminds me of a comedy sketch where all the electrical items in a store are reserved for Mrs Smith. The shop assistant helpfully suggests another item and the customer says "is that one reserved for Mrs Smith too?"
"No," the shop assistant smiles.
"Well, if it's not good enough for Mrs Smith, then I don't want it either!" the customer replies as they walk out.

The initial report was that Palacios wanted to join a more established Premier League club, that is a totally valid position for him to take imo. Since then we have clearly sold the project to him and he has decided this is where he wants to come, to the point where it seems like he has told Leverkusen that he wants them to let him come here.
This isn't League 1 where we are the biggest move players are ever going to get, even then Sam Morsy didn't want to come here. We have to sell the club to players, especially players who have won Bundesliga titles and World Cups.
As for his personality, I dont know the bloke but he has won a World Cup, a Bundesliga, 2 Copa Americas. That's a guy who knows what it takes to win. We need characters like that.

Yeah, Ipswich have.
Sasa Lukic or someone.
They’re going to be a joke playing together for us.
There’s literally loads of fans of top 4 clubs who wanted Palacios signing for them. Man U fans in particular seem to really want him.
It’s insane that we’ve pulled this off. He’s Leverkusens best midfielder ffs. He was better than Xhaka when they won the bloody league and went 55 games unbeaten! He played actual games for Argentina when they won a World Cup. Not 10 second appearances or on the fringe of the squad but actual full 90 minutes as the centre mid in a World Cup winning team. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

What intel do you have on Palacios to think he could disrupt things? Got a BAYER Leverkusen mate?
Posters like this go on Ignore for me, he/she is either attention seeking or knows so little about football their opinions aren’t worth listening too. The club is on the brink of signing the highest profile player in 40 years if not ever and you’ll always get some dimwit who’s not happy. Coyb

IIRC he nearly joined Real Madrid at one point.
Yep. He was in the 2018 team of the year for the entire South America. Believe he won the 2018 South America Champions Legaue equivalent and was then meant to be off to Real Madrid for 30m aged 18. Being described everywhere as a wonderkid. Before he then went to Leverkusen a couple of years later, helped them go 55 unbeaten and win a Bundesliga. Then of course a world cup z
In recent years Madrid, Man U and Man City have all believed to have wanted him. And now he’s in his prime and signing for our Ipswich Town.
I am not exaggerating when I say this - It is genuinely the most outrageous and incredible signing in my opinion of all time.
If you ask google how good he is, he’s apparently the 47th best midfielder in the world. The world. The entire bloody globe lads.
That is the only thing that bothers me. Why is nobody else after him for that price? Everton, Palace, Forest, Fulham, Man Utd, Bournemouth. They have all lost midfielders this window, yet none are going for him, not to mention all the foreign sides.
My worry is that everyone is overly focussed on the "world cup winner" rather than if he is/was any good or what we need.

Had you actually heard of him before the link? Genuine question, I hadn't
Most of the time when we’re linked to someone from abroad.. no.
But this bloke is genuinely world class. Like actually world class. Not someone exaggerating that they’ve signed someone unreal but an actual proven world-class player. He was the best player on the pitch when Leverkusen drew with Arsenal a few months ago for example
Edit - if you just google Palacios v Arsenal and you’ll find plenty of articles raving about him. Here’s one of those analysis sites describing him that day with the stats after he won Man Of The Match. In a champions league quarter final let’s not forget. Against Arsenal. https://www.sofascore.com/news
