I would like Barnsley or Fleetwood away for the nostalgia.

Failing that Orient away as i live there...

Definitely not !!! we are not going to take it seriously enough but they most definitely would and I don't want to give them a sniff of a chance of beating us.

Our midfield will likely be much stronger by the next round, with Matisuwa back and potentially Palacios in the club. So even if we didn't take it too serious, it would still be a team made up of most of our better players from last year, with a sprinkling of our new players. It should be enough to brush them aside. If we did put a 'weakened' team out, then they hardly have the high ground on the bragging rights. If we put a strong team out, I'd wager, we'd blow them away now.

Let’s make this season’s Carabao Cup a nostalgia and memories journey. With Wes and Chappers ticked off, let’s get ourselves a nice draw of Barnsley away!

Barnsley away is a good one as the allocation is 5k so it's give everyone a good chance to watch a game this season if they do not have the points.

Due to the way in which the draw is being done, we have a 50% chance (correct me if I’m wrong) of drawing one of the PL teams in European competitions so it wouldn’t surprise me if we get Sunderland.

Would be nice to be at home whoever we draw.

The draw for Round Three of the Carabao Cup will take place live on Sky Sports following the conclusion of Preston North End’s Round Two tie against Everton on Wednesday 26 August.

As a result of the expanded European competition calendar and the fixture clashes it presents, additional conditions will be required for the draw.

Round Three fixtures will take place across two weeks (week beginning 7 and 14 September), with fixtures in the UEFA Champions League (week beginning 7 September) and UEFA Europa League (week beginning 14 September) also scheduled during this period.

As UEFA competition fixtures cannot be rescheduled, and to enable the Carabao Cup to proceed within its agreed schedule without disrupting other League or domestic cup fixtures, the additional conditions will ensure that the eight Clubs participating in the Champions League or Europa League cannot meet each other in Round Three of the Carabao Cup.

This will mean that the teams drawn in each tie will be able to fulfil the fixture in one of the allocated weeks.

No draw conditions will be required for the Round Four draw.

While Brighton & Hove Albion may also enter Europe through the UEFA Conference League, that competition does not begin until October, so it does not affect the Round Three schedule.

Overall, the Carabao Cup Round Three draw will include 32 Clubs – 23 winners from Round Two and the nine Premier League Clubs competing in UEFA Competitions.
Pre-draw

Before the main draw, there will be a pre-draw to decide whether each of the eight Champions League and Europa League Clubs will be at home or away.

This will take place live on Sky Sports during the build-up to Preston North End’s Round Two tie against Everton.
Main draw

In the main draw, to be conducted after the Round Two tie, the first eight ties will involve those Champions League and Europa League Clubs, with their home or away position already having been decided, and each will be drawn against a club from a separate bowl containing the remaining teams.

Once those eight ties have been drawn, the final eight ties will be drawn as normal.

From Round Three onwards, the draw will no longer be split into Northern and Southern sections.

I see that it's explained that the sides in European competition cannot play each other in order to avoid 'scheduling issues'.

How does that even make sense? It's clearly just seeding via the back door.

Not a prophet, or a stone-age man; just a mortal with potential of a superman.

It's not 50%, it's 1 in 3.

There are 24 teams not in Euro competition. 8 of them will play European-playing Prem teams. 8 out of 24 is 1 out of 3.

I know I said Barnsley earlier, but actually the logical answer is that we'd like a home tie against as lowly an opponent as possible to ensure fringe players can get their minutes and have a chance to progress.

Fleetwood, Reading, Leyton Orient or Peterborough would do nicely.

Also another chance for families who don't normally get to go to get a chance to see them play again. Was lovely to take my kids along last night - couldn't dream of affording it for a league game.

This annoys me as it is not only seeding via the back door but those teams in Europe have already gained 2 advantages - entering the competition at a later round to every other premier league team AND not having a midweek game this week when the rest do (Manure not playing this midweek yet we have!!) As the next round is played over 2 weeks it would only affect a draw that has a champion's league team against a Europa league team. Not brainy enough to work the odds but they seem quite long. If there was a clash, then there should be a spare week when it could be played - no doubt these clubs will then put out a youth team anyway so this fixing" of the draw seems to be to allow the top teams a better chance to get to the final and help with sponsorship etc.

But if the first 8 ties will involve one of the teams participating in Champ/Europa Lg, and the other 8 ties won’t, isn’t that a 50% chance Town will be drawn against one of them? Any mathematicians out there? I’m not being facetious, I’m just interested in the answer.

If there's 24 teams, that means 12 ties. If the first 8 are protected for the European playing teams, that measn there will only be 4 ties that don't have one of those teams, so actually a 2/3rds chance of playing one of them?
My brain hurts

Forget this just read there's 24 teams not playing in European ties, not 24 ties.

My brain still hurts

No, because of the first eight ties in your scenario, half of the teams are the European competition teams. In the second eight ties, Town could be either team in the draw.
