I wonder if this scuppered other deals as the original plan was to loan Abrahams?

Hoping Emersonn not out long term.

£17m upfront is excellent value for someone who scored 11 PL goals last year.

Delap has 13 in 66 PL apps
Awoniyi who went for £10m upfront scored 6 in his last 63 PL games

I suppose so, i guess i'm still shocked by the numbers thrown up these days - and spend the clubs money like it's my own.

I saw Burnley fans on a podcast p1ssed off he wasn't going for 30 million. No, it's not a bargain, but what kind of price do we expect? It's deadline day. They've got us by the ball5 and they have to make it worthwhile for themselves to release him.

I wonder how long we were working on that Tammy Abraham deal. We wasted time over that when the player didn't even want to move on. Maybe we could have smelled the coffee a couple of weeks back and brought Fleming in for less.

He’s scored two in two this season - and he’s definitely worth 2xHirst (n/t) on 16:35 - Sep 1 with 2395 viewsunstableblue

Is what it is. We desperately need another striker. Have done since May. The price will go up on deadline day.

Depend, if he plays 25 games helps and keeps us up.

Probably stays next year as a squad player if we stay up or starter if we go down. Sale on value limited though.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

We could pay 30m and it would make sense; can’t compete with Akpom and an injured Emersonn.

I do wonder if having to go to plan B(?) has effected us bringing in someone else. Instead of signing a loanee, paying a lower loan fee and probably a percentage of salaries, we're having to spend a transfer fee plus signing on bonus and full wage.

I find the numbers bewildering tbh. I just hope the bean counters have a grip of it, but given the track record of the last five years, there’s nothing to say they haven’t

Abrahams? If he wants to stay at Villa that’s fine. Ok, it was Arsenal who are far too good for the likes of Villa or him, but he didn’t impress me a great deal when he came on last night. He just seemed to lumber about wanting to have a ruck with people.

I’m probably being harsh on the fella, but that’s how I saw it.

Bit unfair to judge him on 20 minutes against Arsenal but his recent record hasn't been great so think Flemming is the more likely of the two to do the goal scoring business here.

And by the way it saved us from a season of misspellings - there's only one Tammy Abraham.

The end of transfer window tax will be applied there.

I watched a brief bit of a Burnley pod and they thought that £17m was very cheap compared to the sales of other strikers.

For a double figure top flight scoring striker it really isn't!

But you may be correct on the other plans.

That said would rather have Flemming permanently than Tammy loan.

Can you name me any other proven Premier League goalscorer who hit double figures that has signed for less than £20M this transfer window?

£20M is bare minimum for a player at the level we want.

Does anyone think Fleming is worse than our current 2nd/3rd choices?

I wonder who some fans thought we were going to sign and what price they expected them to be.

Emersonn and Fleming is really decent business, especially with what is behind them in the 10s.

I'd say it's pretty perfect in terms of a young high ceiling player from abroad and then someone in his late 20s had a very good season at the level last year.

The only potential issue is the extra fee may have left us short elsewhere on deadline day, so it would make sense Town might have been looking for a loan with second striker and then could have probably paid the fee to Wolves for the Czech defender.

And Ayase Ueda, who over the past 4 years in the top flights in Belgium and The Netherlands has scored 62 goals in 122 appearances, plus 18 in 43 for Japan has just signed for Lille from Feyenoord for the equivalent of £12.8M. Go figure, insanity!

Nope, I for one can't, but I can tell you one that I think would have been better, fairly prolific goalscorer ( for club(s) and country, averages a goal every other game over his career ), peak of his career, just turned 28, pacey, very good in the air too. Unfortunately we've obviously not been interested it seems and he's just moved for the whopping sum of £12.8M!!! Sure you can work out who.

Boreham Wood, a non league team, sold a player for £1.5m a couple of days ago.
£20m for a player who scored 11 goals in the PL last season seems low in that context when compared to £1.5m for a non league player

In the club's defence, we've also seen players who have excelled in the Dutch top tier, only to come to the Premier League and have a nightmare.

The striker market is ridiculous at the moment so don't really think you can make any comparisons to previous years sales values. £20m for someone who scored 11 in the PL last year is at least the going rate

It's easy to work out who because you have named in your post immediately above this one.

Can I introduce you to this guy who had a very prolific record in a foreign league? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Or these guys?

Not saying every signing who has done well in the Dutch/Belgian leagues can't translate it into the Premier League but there are plenty who couldn't.

EDIT: If a Premier League move happens for Ueda and he proves to be prolific in it fair enough. I would prefer us to sign someone who has done it in the Premier League, though.

Exactly. If you compare to Delap going for around £50m with 1 goal, Flemming is terrific value…

Lankshear ~£20m to a Championship club, and no real PL experience at all.

I think this is very likely scenario. Pitfalls of the transfer market, getting the rug pulled from deals we thought would get done etc. Probably why MA always gets nervous when anything leaked.
