I am still a bit mystified we didn't go for Tuanzebe, I think he would have been the final piece of the jigsaw in an excellent transfer window by the club, a fine centre back and right back. For all the people who said he wanted to be in the North West of England, what part of the North West in England is Auxerre?
Anyway, we payed a lot of money for Quattara, who will be understandably raw. I am hoping that despite his versatility, we haven't really signed him to cover midfield and GON and his team are working hard on him in training and training games to be our right back and that the solution is already in the building. Furlong demonstrated last season, after a summer transfer window where there were many calls to re-sign Tuanzebe, that a decent player you can rely on to be fit is more valuable than a very good one you cannot rely on to be fit.
Tuanzebe played 45 games for us over two seasons. Furlong played 40 in one season. |  | | |

Sign Axel and you have three RB/CBs on the books – no need. The real argument was whether we need someone like that on the other side. Ouattara seems certain to be used as cover for those full-back positions when needed and we have other options too. | |

….its very much worth pointing out that last season he played more games at left back, than he did at right back.
He also played more games as a right mid/right wing than he did at right back.
He is genuinely a utility player.
Whether he nails down a specific position is debatable, but he will get a lot of game time covering a lot of positions. |  |

With his flexible qualities he is young enough to be worked on in any shortcomings in the rb position then you would think | |

Though worth noting that RB is a position that quite a lot of teams occupy with a non-specialist these days - usually someone whose primary position is CB or CM.
Last match day there were 10 teams lining up with a back 4 and a specialist RB, 5 teams employed a back 3 (with the centre back as the right most defender) and 5 employing a non-specialist or convert at right back (2 centre midfielders, 3 centre backs). |  |

Ouattara's only 20, impressed at Strasbourg and is seen as one who could really push on. GON used him as a full back at Strasbourg and I assume this is the plan (I bloody hope so lol). He's only been in the building two weeks and I don't know where he's at with pre-season fitness. I expect we'll see a lot more of him soon and he'll become quite important. |  |
