Fortunately, I managed to fill up my tank at £1.72 a litre on the way to the Liverpool game at the petrol station on the A12 just south of Capel St Mary. That at a time when it was about £1.87 where I live.
But sadly, the petrol in my tank won't last forever, and even the petrol station in Capel may reach the giddy heights of £1.85. [Post edited 12 Sep 8:17]

Profiteering at its finest - I love how war in Iran and closing straight oil shoots up - it was sitting at around £1.36 to £1.40 for petrol at start of war / Brent crude oil raises from 75 dollars a barrel to between 100 and even 115 - petrol goes to £1.65 ish at its peak in ippy - cease fire happens and Brent crude drops to 73 a barrel about 2 months ago - lowest petrol dropped even though crude was at pre war prices was £1.54 - Brent crude stayed between 70-80 for weeks and petrol stayed high - now media hype and propaganda is blowing up - guess what petrol is shooting to its peak war price and Brent crude is still floating at 100 or less which is far less than before ceasefire. Government are happily allowing the massive record profits and are reaping the rewards through the massive tax on fuel. | | | |

It's going up on a daily basis as the oil price goes up on a daily basis.
Then when oil price comes down, it stays the same for 10 days.
Yet the regulator said they were not doing anything wrong! We all have the petrol prices app now and access to the oil price, we can see it with our own eyes.

If it’s of any consolation it’s no different in the rest of Europe, Portugal is well over €2 a litre & here in Madeira the government set the price & it will be over €2 at midnight Sunday evening, the consolation is the UK minimum wage is substantially higher than here & indeed so is the average wage.
But the locals moan about fuel prices & pull up somewhere & still leave the engine running like they always have! | | | |

I found it slightly cheaper in France and Italy recently (not that it’s a competition). It’s already €2.24 and set to go to ~€2.34 in a lot of areas here at home. Motorway services already at €2.41 and set to hit €2.50 soon.
Maybe more people should have switched to electric? The Norwegians will be laughing now (edit - although not as many as I thought; although 98%+ of their new car sales are electric, they still only account for 35% of all vehicles on the road (27% here). I mean the retailer margin is literally pennies, the government charge 60 odd pence per litre tax, and then VAT on top of that. There’s never any government assistance to get prices down, people still have to go to work, and of course the logistics industry will pass the cost on to consumers.
