It is all about supply and demand. The US exports more oil than it imports but prices at the pump reflect the global position. If Saudi reduce exports prices go up, even Countries that don’t buy from Saudis.
Profits are expressed as a percentage of income. In cash terms profits are rising at consumers expense.
The treasury are also benefit as VAT revenue increases per litre. |  |

Indeed. I’m basically going to use the wood burner for heating this winter and am fortunate enough to have some smallish dead trees at clients gardens that I’m currently logging.
Regarding the current petrol/diesel prices, it’s gone up 6 pence at my local garage since Monday and was told by the proprietor this morning that it will be going up again next week to over 2 quid a litre.
Thanks to the orange spunk trumpet and the other protagonists, no sign that the price of oil will come down in the foreseeable. |

I'm fortunate enough to be able to manage car costs through usage to some degree. In the grand scheme of things its not too bad for me if the prices go up, the difference is relatively immaterial given the miles I do. Appreciate for others its a real issue though.
Heating my house is a different question. Mine is on Oil, which is a bit annoying in some respects as its quite lumpy in terms of outgoings. Nothing for 6 months then a lot to fill the tank up. I know there's various ways to smooth that out but I don't bother. Its currently about £1.13 per litre, which is close to double the price 9 months ago. The benefit is I don't have to pay the ridiculous standing charges applied even if not being used.
Managing heating my house with young kids here is harder to do. I'll certainly be advocating for burning through the wood in the garage and using the heating less, whether I'm successful with my wife who feels cold at 20 degrees is another thing. |  | | |

Good to have a stash. I've got loads, the old boy I bought the house off said I could have it, he must've left a couple of hundred quid worth of coal as well bless him. I got a new rope seal for my burner for a few £ as well and put that on recently as the old one was tatty, hopefully helps burn through it a bit slower.

Does that count as a reputable source? It seems to be a bit of a leap from some oil to Europe won't be sent (not surprising considering what's happened) to all Europe bound oil is cancelled until November.

My aim last winter was to not have to buy any firewood. I got to mid March and only bought one load so did pretty well.

That's right. I managed to pick up an ex-demo Skoda Enyaq about 12 months ago from a dealer. It had been registered the previous March (ie 6 months old) and had just 83 miles on the clock. I got it for £21.5K. At the time, there were similar models for sale privately for £15-£18K, albeit older, with higher mileage and no warranty.
Appreciate that £15K + might still be a lot to spend on a vehicle, although we were offered finance at a low APR. I've already made significant savings on the cost of fuel. Charging at home costs about £20 per month, whereas with my previous car, I was paying more than £200 per month for diesel. That's a saving of over £2000 per annum, and more now with the recent hike in the cost of fuel. The car needs servicing every 2 years, not annually. Don't know whether that's exclusive to EVs or new cars generally. I've been told that the service and maintenance costs should be lower with an EV because of fewer parts.

Did a similar thing. Bought an EX mobility scheme Renault Megane with 1400 miles on the clock. One year old and 55% of the new car price.
My 3rd electric vehicle, first one was on a lease with 0% benefit in kind tax, second one was a 4 year old BMW i3 all of them have been absolutely brilliant. Would not have one without home charger however, that's the deal breaker for me |  |
