....they've pretty much confirmed that they are gonna appeal the verdict, that's before they even get their punishment.

So this is gonna go on for a while longer yet.

Assuming they then get found guilty again, they will get given a punishment, then they will appeal that.

We are in the tunnel, we can see the end of it, but we aren't near it yet.

The siege mentality from their players and lawyers will be intense.

This seems on the details so far as being incredibly serious. Not just overspending, but potentially fraudulent accounting practices. I would expect there could be legal ramifications as well as League/regulatory ones.

Complete fooking mess though isn't it. How do you compensate those who have been disadvantaged? Where do you start? How do you quantify it? Do you even bother?

Arsenal have been runner up to City twice in the last 4 years, what's it cost them? First question is probably would City have not won those titles if they didn't cheat? Even that's hard to answer before you then get to what that would've meant for others.

Absolute circus. I hope the Premier League has some backbone and throws the book at them. Expulsion from the league is severe, but there's an argument for it. Money talks though, I dare say they'll land on some soft as shit 30 point deduction that basically costs them 1 season of Champions League money.

That’s why the punishment needs to be now. Get them disrupted so when January comes their players want out.

Agree right to last bit (not that it matters!) - I think they're cooked personally and the punishment will be harsh (multi years out of the prem). Based on nothing but vibes and opinions I'm reading...

The real issue at the bottom of all this, is the inability or unwillingness of the PL / FA to have been monitoring and checking all this in real time, and dealing early and sharply with breaches. The situation now is impossible to properly address.

As Illy said they'll adopt the siege mentality and probably end up winning the league this season.

....I don't see a scenario where they stay in the Prem after all this.

But would the EFL want them?

Might open up the "Super League" option again, get a few like minded "Superteams" on board and they can form their own league.

"The Riyadh Season World Superleague" - Exclusively live on Netflix.

I wonder...

If Man City hadn't paid that amount of wages to the players and managers, would they have still got them for less money, or would they have gone to another Premier League club?

They've broken the rules, but I'm just trying to picture the parallel universe(s) to measure the impact of cheating or loss of advantage by others in sporting terms.

It was all concealed, from both the PL and also Man City's auditors. I'm not sure what additional measures you think they should have put in place?

Pep knew what was coming, that’s why he left when he did.

And they have to have the harshest of punishments or there’s no deterrent to anyone else.

They have to go to the Conference and have all their trophies for the time period in question taken off them and given to the relevant runners up.

There is no way that the PL can be that lenient. They have cheated to the level of almost a billion pounds.

In Italy they have the backbone to relegate teams to the bottom division. Don't know if that's possible with the PL/FA structure but it needs to be something like that otherwise where is the deterrent?

Considering nearly 20 years ago, Luton Town got docked 30 points for what in the scheme of things were far lesser offences and certainly not 114 of them (!), I think City should be in for a huge punishment, and one that serves as a big warning to everyone else. I just have this fear that the powers that be are going to choke on it and not do what they should do. Hope I'm wrong.

The EFL would take them in a heartbeat. They raise income, profile, eyeballs.

Best case scenario for EFL is to take them into L2 and have at least three seasons revenue from them. All the clubs through those divisions will back that.

I’d have a cheeky couple of quid on Haaland to have a 100 goal season.

f they do get hit as hard as most expect they will, I do wonder if they and their fans will suddenly become interested in that super league and the resurrection of it as an idea

Could certainly start a ripple effect which goes God knows where.

The problem of demoting them to the Conference or League one / two / championship is that it would deny a promotion place for rivals in any of those leagues. It would be fairer for example if they were banned from the PL for a period of time having been relegated to the Championship. I very much doubt that will happen but it's important they don't continue to interfere unfairly with other teams they're competing with.

I don't disagree, it would be appropriate, just a case of believing it when I see it I guess. Just think there's so much money involved, so many legal consequences, political too no doubt. I can see this ending up with a really cowardly punishment that they'll try to paint as forceful and fitting the crime.

I hope I'm wrong.
