Actually quite grim, isnt it? I don't know to what extent the mid terms can really change anything, but my fingers are crossed anyway.

I'm hoping its going to be real shock to the MAGA system in Nov. Feels like some Trump voters have finally realised what they have done, lets hope its enough to turn both houses and the country and Republican Party move on from MAGA

And you just know this will be shared across social media. However, this isn’t a first. The murder of Renee Nicole Good was an extrajudicial execution which was broadcast into people’s homes.

You’ve got to wonder what kind of ghoul would want to watch it. Most states have a moratorium, unfortunately the current regime is taking them backwards. According to Amnesty, they are on this quite unpleasant list: • China: Executes thousands annually (more than the rest of the world combined). • Iran: At least 2,159 recorded executions. • Saudi Arabia: At least 356 recorded executions. • Yemen: At least 51 recorded executions Though it does beg the question why people think we should cosy up to China.

Hopefully Janet Jackson's tit doesn't fall out. Will they have a couple of over enthusiastic presenters, X factor style. Then cut to a commercial break just before the pre shoot analysis. What a backward place US has become under Trump.
| America is lost - part 3757345 on 09:25 - Oct 9 with 888 views | Swansea_Blue | It’s a deeply barbaric state at the moment. They’ve always been a bit rough and ready, but the current lot seem to take joy out of it. It’s nearly 90 years since the last public execution (1937) if you exclude the extrajudicial murders that are carried out quite regularly by their law enforcement (lol) agencies. In contrast, the last public execution in the United Kingdom was in 1868. Described by the Royal Commission on Capital Punishment of about that time as a "grotesque spectacle", it was recommended that in future they be conducted in private. | |

I would have to agree with the Commission’s view on that. Although I imagine it was a point of minor detail to the condemned! It’s an unsurprisingly regressive step by the US administration. Edit - although I wouldn’t be surprised if they change their mind. [Post edited 9 Oct 9:54]

If you want Jesus' approach to the death penalty, John 8:1-11. Hint: It wasn't "Oh goody, do you know where we can get some extra sharp stones?"

Yes, the sentence was the result of a military court-martial. But the President has to green-light it. How the execution is conducted is in the hands of civilian/political leadership at the Pentagon (Hesgeth)

Historically - and contrary to popular imagination - in Britain the majority (at least two-thirds, in most places, sometimes nearly all) of death sentences during the 18th and early 19th centuries were commuted, often to Transportation. There were a lot of capital crimes on the statute books at that time, but they were relatively rarely carried out, particularly for lesser offences.

Plus hopefully some of the more reasonable Rupublicans (who do exist) will decline to vote in November.

Slight diversion here but I'm reminded of John Dobbs - who's grave is just off Dobbs Lane, Kesgrave, just round the corner where I live. I'm sure I recall reading that he killed himself to avoid transportation, having been accused of stealing a sheep. So transportation was considered by some a fate worse than death.
