| Queues on 16:02 - Oct 11 by Cheltenham_Blue | Some of these are worth a read. And explain why the security procedures are not 'performative' https://sgsa.org.uk/safety-man https://sgsa.org.uk/document/g https://www.gov.uk/government/ The question of whether or not a cursory wave with a wand and a bag search does anything is a good question, but in reality, security is multi-faceted. Such searches are best understood as one element of layered security, alongside CCTV, intelligence gathering, crowd management, police involvement and trained stewards. There are also legitimate questions about whether searching every supporter is proportionate, particularly when searches are inconsistent or superficial. The effectiveness of a search depends on its quality, the threats it is intended to detect and how it fits within the stadium's wider security arrangements. The key point is that football clubs are trying to prevent low-probability but potentially very serious incidents. Searches do not eliminate that risk, but they can reduce opportunities to bring dangerous objects into the ground. The more interesting question is whether the routine searches conducted at Premier League grounds actually provide a demonstrable security benefit, or whether some function primarily as a deterrent. There is a meaningful distinction between the two, but deterring any potential attempt is a positive effect. My instinct is those moaning about having to go through it, would be the first moaning that, 'the club could have prevented this' should anything ever go horrifically wrong. |
I think the main question is whether the search process could be cleaned up and simplified - such as having more people on each turnstile to increase the speed of the checks. The people at the turnstile were ridiculous yesterday too. Against Sunderland and Liverpool, the machine was facing outwards, so it was easy to scan the ticket. Yesterday, it was facing the steward, who had no interest in taking the phone to scan themselves, which meant it had to be presented at a weird angle, and took slightly longer than usual. No sense whatsoever.

| Queues on 17:12 - Oct 11 with 734 views | GetWelwyn | West stand is far worse than last season. Security is taking longer and once you're past that, you have to queue again for the turnstiles, which is pot luck choosing the best one. It seems there are far more queuing at the turnstiles than security, looks like fan zone people are hanging about before going into the stand. You shouldn't have to arrive at 2:20 to make sure you get in on time. Not everybody can or wants to get there at 1 o'clock so they can have a pint. God help us if it's still happening when it's cold and wet. | | | |

| Queues on 15:43 - Oct 11 by LegendofthePhoenix | I'm pretty sure that the SAR has the biggest capacity. Someone posted a link a few months ago to the different stand capacities, but can't find it now. Either way probably fewer entry points as it is not as wide as West. Maybe someone has the details of capacities and entry points, but whatever it is, the queue yesterday was a good 20 minutes and loads were behind me. |
The internet says the Cobbold and Churchmans hold 7000, North Stand 7500 and West stand 8500. That sounds about right to me. Edit: No problem for me getting in the West Stand just like the other games. Just allowing a little more time until things settle down. [Post edited 11 Oct 17:38]

| Queues on 17:41 - Oct 11 with 642 views | sticklegs | Yeah...it's ridiculous isn't it. Security checks are a waste of time and just a tick box exercise. There is no consistency in their procedures. Sometimes I'm not checked, other times every pocket is analysed. As for phone ticket, how is this progress? Queues moved quicker when we used to pay by cash or hand over a paper ticket at the turnstyle! | | | |

They’ve been introduced because they are a PL requirements (see other posts). It’ll improve - especially if people do as they are asked, including understanding how things like phone wallet tickets work. Staring at it and rapping the screen with the phone isn’t going to work. I used EasyJet this week. Whilst you can still just about print up a QR code, going forward unless you have the ticket on your phone, you are not going to get on the plane. It’s the way the world is going. Regardless, the getting in to PR process needs working on by whoever does the stadium management, especially the wand wavers. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I have 4 apps on my phone for various Hospitals and my Doctors surgery, you can stand at the reception and speak to the receptionist face to face and they still say you have to go through the app it’s not all great.

It certainly isn’t. Give me the good ole days of papers tickets and letters every time. Train tickets you name it are like this. If you lose your phone, help!! When travelling I’ve taken to making sure I have back up on a tablet. How daft is that?
| Queues on 19:00 - Oct 11 with 528 views | Billywitch | got to the stadium at 14:30, because I could this week, other weeks its likely I'll arrive at 14:50 due to work commitments. Annoys me that people blame those arriving late on the queues, not everyone is a p155head cramming in a final pint at 1430 | | | |

| Queues on 19:33 - Oct 10 by RonFearonsHair | Interesting. I arrived just before 2.20 and it took a good 10 minutes or so. Though the queue next to ours was moving more quickly as the bloke didn't seem to have his magic beepy wand switched on and wasn't asking anyone to turn around. |
Same for me. No real drama - security was fairly quick and the 2nd queue through the turnstiles wasn’t that bad. And it will get quicker as people get used to it. New covered fans area behind the West stand is much better - and it will come into its own once the winter weather arrives. The gents toilets need to be laid out better and using a one-way system would vastly improve the flow…

To be clear what happened at the Ariana Grande concert was an abomination and I'm not belittling that tragedy. [Post edited 11 Oct 1:02]

There is a new legal obligation on all public facing venues to have an Anti Terrorism policy. The higher the profile, and the larger the venues, the greater the obligation for that policy to have deterrents and safeguards.

” If you lose your phone, help!!” How is that any different to losing your wallet back in the ‘good ol’days’, with all your tickets in it? At least in a digital world it is usually easy and instant to regain the tickets on a replacement/temporary device.

I've found it quicker this season than last to be fair, significant so. Last season one had to wait out in the weather to get in so why is this season different?

Went straight through both in the West Stand with only one person in front in each queue. There is more than one entrance, many funnel into the closest ones and arrive at peak times which is why there are issues. Security check yesterday in fairness was quickest all season. My only complaint is why only one level head beer dispenser?

Sounds like projectile ralphing up beer standing up after too much of it. I presume it’s one of those auto beer dispensers at the end of the West Stand

Greene King Level Head IPA beer that is pumped. I liked the Tottenham beer pumping system that pumps the beer through the counter and into the bottom of the glass, very clever.
