Town fans saying we shouldn’t give Man Ci£y any abuse on Saturday… 07:22 - Oct 13 with 2933 viewsITFC_Forever

Yes, we should.

As should fans of every club they play.

The whole of football needs to let them know how reviled they are and that this isn’t going away,
If there’s no response to them, they’ll think everyone’s forgotten about it and they can get away with it. The authorities will think the same.

They can’t be allowed to get away with it…. And for those who are saying it doesn’t affect us - it does. This season for a start, given their potential relegation. And the club they have become in the last 15 years is built on lies and cheating - if they hadn’t have done that; they’d be the same old accident-prone club they’ve always been.

I'd go further. The ire should be directed at City owners and those complicit and also the Premier league who have laughably taken so long to deal with this issue.

Fans and players not knowing is absolute bollox in my eyes. The whole world has known for at least 3 years minimum. Majority of the current players being the exception. But you can't tell me that Haaland and his dad are oblivious to the double contract he no doubt receives, and Man City fans are continuing to back the owners generally and we're basically taunting Anfield, so why should they be receiving any grace.

It may well be they are ashamed (as I am in Ashton) but, as football fans, that doesn't mean we won't support our respective Clubs.

I hear you on the 'lines we won't cross' point though Dan, absolutely 100% agree.

There's a clear distinction, city fans are supportive of the situation and their owners, not just the club.

Support the Town for 85 mins... once we are 2 or 3 up heading towards injury time that might be the moment to go on the windup as their lot will have already turned on them at that point..... its very simple really and cant see what could possibly go wrong with that plan!😉🤔🤣

Town fans saying we shouldn’t give Man Ci£y any abuse on Saturday… on 08:24 - Oct 13 by homer_123

Personally, as a Town fan I find myself in a situation where I can, to some degree, understand what City fans might be going through.

I will continue to show support for Ipswich on the pitch but I do, still, have an issue with the whole Ashton/ Farage situation. I'm not conflating the two situations - just can see that City fans will continue to support their team on the pitch, regardless. As I will as a Town fan, even though I have very strong views on Ashton and how that was handled. Ultimately, the Club is bigger than any one person and will be here long after Ashton and I are gone. I support the Club. I suspect many City fans will feel the same and will continue to show their support, even if they know what is what.

Anyways, not saying that as Town fans we shouldn't show our anger and annoyance to the City/ Prem league situation.

Just my personal perspective on it - that's all.

Nah, that's *exacly* how a football fan should be. Recognising that your own club isn't perfect (and maybe, is absolutely abhorrent), but still supporting them.

That's not what Man City fans are doing, though. They're singing "we'll cheat when we want", waving imaginary money at opposition fans (bit of a sore one for Ipswich fans of a certain era, that...) and flooding X with posts about how 'the rules shouldn't apply to us because we're rich'.

F**k the City fans. They're nothing like Ipswich fans who support the club but have an issue with Ashton.

I've not the time to go through everything, however:

You've put a lot on the CAS panel and it feels like you've tried to elevate it above recent findings of the independent commission. They are both 3 person panels staffed by legal professionals. They are equivalent bodies doing equivalent work.

You've also taken one line out of the judgement. Some other feedback was:
- The panel said City had shown a “disregard” for the principle that clubs must cooperate with a governing body’s investigations, and conducted an “obstruction of the investigations”
- and as UEFA Stated, many of the alleged breaches were time-barred due to the five‑year time period foreseen in the Uefa regulations.
- City were still found guilty of obstructing and fined. A lot of the 115 charges are for being similarly obstructive.

Also as an aside, City love saying "irrefutable evidence" like a mantra, but the evidence has just been refuted by legal experts after months of deliberation.

The CAS is also ManC's best chance of spinning out the process, given the standard Prem appeal has to be wrapped up by late Jan early Feb.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

As if Man City weren't already a difficult enough game, the current siege mentality amongst their players and fans alike will make it even tougher. Why give fuel to that with excessive taunts? The whole of the football world already knows the feelings of supporters of every other club. Chanting 'cheats' everytime a City player touches the ball is counterproductive in my mind. I'd much rather a 90 minute barrage of Town songs (including 'We support our local team').

As a Manchester City fan, I looked at your message board in advance of our game, and I was disappointed to see the views on here and wanted to comment. I hope this is OK.

The case rests largely on the Etihad sponsorship deal because that is where the material value of the case lies.

In 2019, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) official Arbitral Award ruled that,

"there is no doubt that Etihad fully complied with its payment obligation towards MCFC and that MCFC rendered the contractually agreed services to Etihad".

That, I believe was based on financial transaction records from the banking system. You may not be aware but according to a recent statement by Etihad Airways, the PL did not, in 2 years, call on evidence from Etihad Airways, who are the largest single UAE based sponsor of Manchester City.

The BBC can talk about Guilty verdicts, but an independent Court ruled on the basis of financial evidence in favour of City and Etihad Airways so be sceptical. There is then a Guilty and a Not Guilty verdict. When City talk about irrefutable evidence, I think they are referring to the financial records that were reviewed by CAS but I do not know for certain, but what else could be irrefutable.

I try to post comments like this on BBC Football, but they just delete my comments. I hope that you will read this and think that perhaps there is another side to the argument.

Good Luck this season. Manchester City are just finishing the construction of a new fanzone around on the opposite side to your end and you will be welcome. You can find lots of video of the ground on Youtube by searching for Etihad Stadium Construction.

Thanks for posting that, interesting read, I have not seen or heard any of that before but that is no surprise, I await the outcome with interest. I would not be surprised to see a small points deduction and fine but who knows. See above for my view.

I think we may have burned ourselves already with the Blue Moon, Promoted Too Soon nonsense in the early 2000's.

Let's be honest it's going to be a 4-6 to 1 defeat, I don't know if goading them will achieve very much.

Confronting them is about how they've cheated to achieve that result, why would that not be the time, it's not about goading them, it's letting them know what they are, cheats. Anyway it's inconsequential to us if they beat us 6-1 as they're going to be relegated anyway.

Your owners cheated, so enjoy League Two.

Stop trying to justify and excuse it, if it were Manure or Liverpool you'd be screaming. You deserve nothing, even when you pump us on Saturday, what a hollow victory it will be, it's a meaningless fixture now. If Town had done what you lot did, we'd be boycotting the ground, not trying to back the idiots who have condemned you to a laughing stock, which you are.

Hopefully the titles will be stripped too.

I agree, I just don't see much point in spending a small fortune to go to a football game, to try and one up a supporter base at a game we'll get smashed in anyway. They are a joke, everyone knows it, whether we wave silly placards or not.

If we beat them, at their place, thats the best two fingers we can give really.

I do have sympathy for the fans, and respect for anyone who looks into the detail of these things and actually tries to understand it.

It seems to me that City have either tried to find a clever way around the constraints of the rules, and failed, or have tried to find a clever way around the constraints of the rules, and succeeded.

If it is the latter, and they ultimately show that, then they are not in breach. What then for other teams and their future approach? What then for the confidence of the ordinary fan in what we are seeing on the pitch? Those who are prone to conspiracy theories will think that some panel has been paid off. But even absent that, we'd have a situation where rich clubs are able to re-route payments and aways be one step ahead of the rules that are trying to confine them. The competition becomes far less about what occurs on the pitch, and far more about business, deals, arguments, spin, accounting. That is not why fans follow football. Football will be the poorer.

If it is the former, then City's owners will doubtless throw their toys out of the pram. Who knows whether they will sell up and disappear, and what that would do to City. Who knows whether they would exact revenge on the UK in general by withdrawing investment. Clearly their investment was a public relations exercise (or sportswashing if you want to be less charitable). It's now a PR disaster. I can't imagine they would want to keep investing in a country which has given them that outcome. Fans of all other clubs will hate City for many years, there may well be legal claims for many years in respect of compensation for other clubs, City may be kicked out of one or more leagues. Not very appetising.

City's owners should never have been allowed to buy City in the first place. Whether or not the purchasing entity is a state entity as a matter of law, plainly it was too close as a matter of fact to the decision makers and money of the state. Given that the investment was a PR exercise, there was always the possibility of political and diplomatic pressure causing conflicts of interest. Andy Burnham's ill-advised comments indicate that this is more than a mere theoretical possibility. Your club's owners have left a stain on football and on politics.

I think most fans would consider this diplomatic immunity business an absolute farce. It is just one element of City's strategy of seeking to take every opportunity to be above the rules, or to get around them one way or another. They are not helping themselves by doing it. With Abramovich gone, Chelsea understood that their best strategy was to fess up and cooperate. City have been obstructive and fought every single point. If they lose, the stakes are high. Win, lose, or draw, I have a feeling everyone will hate them for it anyway.

I don't blame the fans for any of this, for one moment. And neither do I blame them for wanting to believe the position that their club is putting forward. Doubtless Chelsea wanted to believe that Abramovich was above board, too. One thing I would say is that we either respect decisions by arbitrators and independent panels or we don't. We can't respect the ones where we win, and reject the ones where we don't. The CAS award was answering a different question.

The present decision may be appealed successfully. We shall see. But at the moment, City have been found guilty, and at the moment, are guilty as sin. As things stand, it appears that their wholesale disregard for basic fair play has created a charade of an era, and caused millions of fans to cheer on their beloved clubs for a substantial portion of their lives, in games and seasons which turn out not to have been what we thought they were, and which will forever be tainted. Lance Armstrong style. City have made mugs of a lot of ordinary decent folk. When City sold out to the UAE, it sold its essence, its plucky likeability, and its soul. Its fans should be angry about that, and that anger should be directed at the current owners for buying that soul, and for the former owners for selling it.

If there were to be an FC City of Manchester to which all City fans flock, I for one would be immensely supportive of that entity. Maybe they could find a nice home at Maine Road. Who knows, it might even fill up?

When a player cheats by diving, there is rightly an uproar in the stands, and maybe even a chant or a song.

What City have been found to have done over a period of many years deserves more than a song. It deserves a Symphony Orchestra at each and every ground this season.

Preferably playing Beethoven's 5th, because:
(i) that symphony is associated with the hand of fate knocking at the door. That is what will now be visited upon City; and
(ii) Beethoven's 5th is the division to which I would relegate them if it were up to me.

That is your opinion but there was a report recently on Bloomberg that the Premier League initiated settlement talks with Manchester City before the verdict dropped. City pulled out. This suggests that the Premier League are not so confident. Of course the report could be wrong. I have linked an archived version of the Bloomberg report here https://archive.ph/1nhl9

Just keep an open mind because CAS cleared the Etihad deal before. I do not trust the Premier League to be independent.

Was quite disappointed in the city fans on Sunday. Perhaps they’re waiting until the process concludes but I’d be embarrassed by association, and protesting against the ownership.

Imagine if we’d found out we’d rigged referees to get promotion last season (appreciate Man City are not accused of that but it’s another example of cheating) - I wouldn’t be taking an inflatable to our next game.

City fans seem to be following the Saints model!!!! That ended well on 12:44 - Oct 13 with 377 viewsunstableblue

I have to say I read an comment piece in the Times which warned against deeply damaging City as it would be the fans that would suffer, if investment pulled out and they became a debt ridden giant languishing in the lower leagues.

Then I saw the scenes of City fans outside and inside Anfield almost celebrating the corruption and fraud. Venerating the Middle Eastern ownership.

And I can’t help feel the club and fans deserve to have the book thrown at them.

It’s almost like when Saints fans started turning up in camouflage to games before their play off ban - making binoculars gestures.

Both the club ownership, club leadership and club fans need to get some remorse and dignity back pretty darn quick.

The worry is that the team is so strong - and we know how they got here - that they go on a winning binge, supported by some grotesque fan interpretation and it all becomes pretty toxic for the Premier League and UK football.

Relegation needs to be confirmed sooner rather than later

Nothing in the Bloomberg article suggest that any discussion was initiated by the Prem league. Aside from which, it's rather standard practice to see if a settlement can be reached in all situations such as this.

Also, I note that you have no trust in the Prem League - that is an understandable position. But the flip of that is that many have no trust in those that own Man City either. As evidenced by them obfuscating the process.

Again, is the belief that there has been no wrongdoing at any point?

Pompey got sent back to the stone age for not even a teaspoon of what your dodgy owners have done.

Anything but League Two, and all your titles stripped will be a total injustice.

You should be hounding the owners out, not backing them, you know you didn't win any of it fairly, now do the right thing and stand by football and not the scum running your club, who have made you an embarrassment on an international scale, and start protesting.
