If the owners tried to change the badge.... 09:51 - Oct 22 with 2551 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

....say to just the Suffolk Punch. How would it be received?

...as long as we keep the Horse and ball, maybe a poll as well.

Not well I imagine.

Our badge is great, one of the best in the country. No reason to change.

I don't think it would be well received. I think it is more impactful in how it is used currently.

If it included a long term commitment to support the Suffolk Punch and a breeding programme, then go for it.

Don't have a problem with that concept - less is more

Shamchester Citeh started replacing the badge with the name - dumbing it down?

Whereas many teams are easily recognised for just one element of the full club badge; Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Millwall, Wolves, West Ham are a handful i can think of

We have a great badge, and I'd rather it was harmonised with each kit than stick to set colours - next home kit "blue out" please

Call me old fashioned ( not literally ) nut I’m old fashioned and a traditionalist and what’s more , I believe our club badge is and has always been one of the best historically

The badge tells as story throughout all it’s elements , take the majority of those elements away and bang goes the nostalgia of it all and the true meaning of what this club means to a lot of people

I’ll go with the flow but i much prefer what we have now but I did prefer the yellow version as well

All modern badge designs are rubbish. Absolutely no need to touch it.

That wouldn't be a bsdge in my opinion, just a shirt logo like the Arsensl gun. As long as the badge remains I'd be ok with the Suffolk horse on the shirt.

I think that was very much the majority opinion before it was changed to the Suffolk Punch version

This has already happened. The simplified Suffolk Punch and ball is used just as much if not more than the full badge by the club digitally, and now encroaching onto the stadium and training ground, and indeed the third shirt. I would assume they’ll settle on this dual logo system to avoid upsetting the fans while still being able to use the simplified logo for wider brand recognition. As badge redesigns/simplifications go it’s a decent one, and been cleverly implemented with its gradual roll out, but then I prefer the old yellow badge to the current red one so not as wedded to the current official badge as some.

If we accept a Toy Town badge like West Ham, we really have gone as a fanbase.

Next supporters forum there needs to be real noise, to show Ashton is is a football club, not a brand for tourist tat.

Maybe you're not being old fashioned enough

The current shield and use of a Suffolk Punch has only been in use since 1972 - the design was significantly different before that, based a the heraldic borough coat of arms.

For me preferences change with current culture, and I see no reason why the badge shouldn't change (once again) to reflect modern times. In the same way that a coat of arms was too dated when the last change took place, today's designs in all walks of life typically reflect simple, clean representations.

I'm all for the shift to just using the Suffolk Punch and ball.

Edit : for reference.

I'd rather we didn't. There's history in that badge (both the town and the club).

Tho fair enough to have a simplified logo to use sometimes, even on a dark-coloured third shirt. But not the main strip.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I have tried to be objective rather than biased. I think the badge is great and would be against changing it. I think it’s recognisable, unique and has aged really well. I see no reason to change it. I get that for marketing reasons just using the suffolk punch can be useful but I would hope the full badge remains the same forever.

On a side note the full badge and the horse are plastered all over the new training ground. I can’t imagine that would have been sanctioned if there were any plans in the pipeline.

I can't imagine they will but just continue to use it for the third shirt and leisure wear which I think is great

Can’t remember too much of a hoo-ha the last time they changed the badge.

No change warranted for me however.

I think a Suffolk punch and ball is a suitable moniker to appear on fashion garments for Ipswich. The current third kit would look equally good with a full gold crest.

Our crest pulls together several elements from the town and county. It's much more than just a budgie on a ball. For starters the horse appears to have a deft touch.
