It's not the contact, it's whether or not he could make a shot when he'd knocked the ball so far ahead. For me, Walton gathers it, so no DOGSO

We can agree on your last paragraph.

They should only be reviewing a clear and obvious error (i.e. definitely is a red card). They are moving into re-refereeing the game because the ref missed a very obvious foul. Ultimately the correct decision (that should have been given by the linesman/ref onfield) was reached. But VAR were wrong to get involved. |
That’s been happening for years.

Thats a bit harsh, it could have gone either way. Lee Hendrie on Sky thought Diop was lucky to escape the red.

| How can VAR review it when it isn't a red card? (n/t) on 22:52 - Oct 23 by GlasgowBlue | And VAR should only get involved in the red card. So if it wasn't a red acrd then the onfield decision of no foul should stand rather than a free kick and a yellow. |
My interpretation too. also it would make sense if the lino was involved as a sounding board or extra opinion. It must be a lonely job trying to make sense of a situation on a small screen in front of a baying crowd and jostling players behind him, each with an different opinion.

I thought so too. I was amazed it wasn’t a foul in the first place and feared the worst once the ref looked at the screen. If the ref had blown straight away and shown a red then VAR wouldn’t have been invoked at all.

It’s the kind of situation where most Town fans would say that it wasn’t an obvious goal scoring opportunity. But also, if it had been a Town player bearing down on goal, we’d all think that the attacking player would smash it into the bottom corner. Think on balance the yellow card was correct. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| How can VAR review it when it isn't a red card? (n/t) on 22:07 - Oct 23 by vapour_trail | It was a red all day long. We got away with one there. |
If it had been given I don't think we could have complained. VAR, Forest manager, plenty of impartial observers felt it was a red and on balance I do too. Plenty of Town fans wearing blue tinted glasses which is to be expected I guess. Not that I am bothered. Was also nice seeing a ref make his own decision, take his time and not be bounced into a VAR call.

Struijk's sending is a perfect example. Ref didn't send him off, VAR obviously disagreed as they told the ref to check. Tef changes his mind as a result and sends Struijk off. FA then overturn the red card, so they obviously decided the ref got it wrong. But the PL's Key Match Incidents Panel after reviewing actually agreed to should have been a red. Too many decision makers, go with the ref decision and get on with it

For what it's worth, I've seen a decent chunk of non-Town fans thinking it was the right decision as well but just annoyed that it wasn't given in real time. Definitely one that will divide opinion.

Agree - and what is good was that the ref got to make the decision and did so using all the information available to him via the replays. I would like to see the ref also being able to ask for a replay (rather than relying on a VAR to tell him) if he is unsure or unseen - for any crucial decisions. Would be using the technology to support him rather than undermine him.

| How can VAR review it when it isn't a red card? (n/t) on 09:46 - Oct 24 with 165 views | norfsufblue | My issue was the restart... if the only error was not giving a free kick and yellow card , surely you go back to where the game was stopped after issuing a yellow if indeed even that should happen as the ref has effectively partially stood by his decision... it effectively meant that VAR reviewed a free kick??? | | | |
| How can VAR review it when it isn't a red card? (n/t) on 12:09 - Oct 24 with 111 views | Mark | I don't ever remember a yellow card being given after a VAR review. I thought the ref should be called over only if VAR think it a red, and the question is then yes or no to aa red. | | | |

This is what I don't understand. I thought VAR was there to review red cards, penalties, offsides and goals. They are not there to make decisions over bookings and free kicks. So once the referee decided there wasn't enough to overturn the decision surely it should have been a case of play on from where the ball had been previously, with no yellow card? However fortunate that would have been.
