Bloody horrible news. 63 is no age. Buzzcocks were one of the first punk bands I listened to on the strength of seeing the name graffitied on the underpass by London Road entrance to Chantry Park.
Seen them a few times and actually caught a few words with him. Last time being two years ago at the Waterfront. Brilliant songs and mostly catchy numbers. Fast Cars, Boredom, Promises, Sixteen again and many others that often get overlooked in favour of 'Ever Fallen in Love..... All superb tracks.
RIP Pete. A brilliant vocalist, a punk hero and a incredibly lovely man. :(
Spiral Scratch...fck the reaper, a nasty piece of work. RIP Pete Shelley.
Spiral Scratch was a landmark of true Punk ethic. Inspired by the Pistols playing at Manchester Free Trade Hall, guitars from Woolworths, recorded on a four track and released by themselves which in turn led to countless others realeasing their own stuff and flicking the V's to the man. Plus it sounds chuffin brilliant still.

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

Lots of myths & false information regarding that gig.
Two members of The Buzzcocks actually put that Sex Pistols gig on themselves. There were only 45/50 people there.
The Pistols, also played there again 6 weeks later - to a jam packed audience this time around.

Pete Shelley & Howard Devoto promoted the Pistols gig. We probably all know who was and wasn't there that night by now. The ginger one was most definatley not in attendance that night. Star of the show was John The Postman.

The ginger-one will always be there in my heart - just for the absurdity of it all.
Terrible news - was really upset about it when learnt of it last night. One of the best punk bands ever, and play the Singles Going Steady a lot. Genius songwriter. RIP Pete.
Anyone remember the Buzzcocks appearing on Saturday morning children's TV, I think it might have been Swap Shop or maybe Tiswas, where they got viewers to phone in with questions. Some wag phoned up to ask where they got their name from.
