Lads, lads, lads Messi in over Maradona. You have got to be on drugs,i f the man who single handedly won a world cup isn't there whilst a man who's only achievements are whilst surrounded by superstars is. Maradona is by far the best footballer I have ever seen Other than that Zoff maybe over Buffon

I realise that this is heresy... but didn't Wilnis do the business in Prem? In the team over Taricco?

a magnificent team if I'm not mistaken, but didn't win the world cup... possibly the best team not to

Yep, beat the Germans 8 - 3 in the group stages, went 2 - 0 up against them after 10 minutes in the final only to go on and somehow lose....

Obviously it will come dow to opinions. Maradona was incredible, an unbelievable player, but his career was only at the highest level for a few years. Messi has dominated the very top level of the sport now for 15 years, it’s truly incredible. 10x La Liga winner 6x Copa Del Rey winner 4x Champions League winner 3x Super Cup 3x Club World Cup 12x Argentine Footballer of the Year (Maradona 4x)

Err that's not the very top level - I see no World Cup winner there. Messi has been surrounded by players like; Xavi, Iniesta, Henry, Suarez etc. Maradona took Napoli to a level they'd never been to before and rarely had the players around him that Messi has had. Darren Fletcher has trophy room full of medals... but he'd not make a best Scottish XI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_Fletcher

Depends what you define as the top level I guess - the World Cup is incredibly prestigious, but I don’t know whether 8 games every 4 years would be my personal judgement of the top level. It seems a little odd that you are using the fact that he has only ever played in great teams, at a great club, with great players against an individual to say he is not great? To try and draw some comparisons between Lionel Messi and Darren Fletcher is clutching.

But the reason CR7 is a better player than Messi is the fact that CR7 has taken a bang average national team and won things, also he’s done it at more than 1 club team too

If you remember England were actually marginally better than the much-overated Brazil team of 1970. Add on the fact that West Germany were at least on a par with England...perhaps even better and after 'that' extra timein searing heat at high altitude they were too exhausted to beat Italy... who in turn were done in by extra time against West Germany and too exhausted to beat Brazil If Astle and Lee hadn't missed those sitters, rose-tinted history would have been re-written- Brazil..4th best team in the world in 1970
