Flynn Downes 20:23 - Mar 8 with 2899 views | JDAndCoke | I'm sure many will disagree but I wanted to get the general consensus here regarding the sale of Flynn Downes this summer. I'd sell him... (provided some of the money will be re-invested) Yes, Flynn has been fantastic this year and it's widely accepted that he'll be our POTY but one player certainly doesn't make a team (that much is clear given our league position). We need reinforcements in the summer and I think with Flynn as our most saleable asset, selling one player to allow the club to bring in 4 or 5 solid L1 players could be the answer. I'm also starting to think Woolfy may be here next year too. Lot of potential but has looked very shaky at times and a little too relaxed on the ball. Think another season at this level is needed for Luke, not sure he's quite ready to step up.

I just hope when we do sell, he a) goes to a club where he’s going to play, and b) we actually get a decent fee for him and don’t have our pants pulled down at the first sniff of a 7 figure fee.

Flynn Downes on 20:41 - Mar 8 with 2754 views | J2BLUE | Selling one player? I'll be surprised if we have one of Woolf, Downes and KVY left at the end of August. We only need to look at the last decade to see how this is going to go. They'll all be sold for a collective £6m-£8m. Then we will look to replace them with cheaper players. This is why it's such a massive deal to miss out on promotion this season. Whatever people think of our squad we can almost guarantee it will be weaker next season.

In fairness to ME he has proved before that he'll hang on to our best players. I'd also be surprised if KVY went to be honest. Yes he's looked good in the dozen or so games he's played but this is the highest competitive level he's played at. Not enough games played to warrant a big move IMO

I fear it'll be a low ball and we gamble on sell-ons and they ram Mings down our throats to try and quell the pitchforks. I think Woolfy would be a fool to go now. This is first season proper and he's got work to do. If Butcher is genuinely around, who better to learn from without the upheaval and chance to make a name for yourself?

I agree. Evan's realised his best bet is to cut his turnover, sell assets, keep us in L1 or 2 thereby cutting his losses (FFP is very low so wages will have to reflect that). Our only hope now is that some benefactor who truly wishes to see us in the upper echelons again will take the club off his hands. He just wants rid: how else could he have let this season unfold without trying to change something.

We are a sinking ship and he would probably prefer to learn from someone who's played in the last 25 years.

Flynn Downes on 20:54 - Mar 8 with 2624 views | thebooks | My fear is any money we get is just used to further minimise costs, like other recent sales. Downes is by far our best, most reliable midfielder. We’d need a good replacement. I was amazed to read we lopped 70% off the wage bill after relegation. This isn’t being reinvested in any way: Agree Woolfenden’s not ready yet. KVY looked great, but he’s barely played. Will be here another season, hopefully.

I'm not suggesting he'd revolutionise his game, or sure that the age of TB detracts from what he can teach him, especially about progressing to the top and handling the pressure you'd hope LW will come under. You'd hope and England player of his stature would command respect from our players at least. Next season LW has the opportunity to star and shine and earn a better move in my opinion.

A move to Anderlecht then.
Flynn Downes on 22:41 - Mar 8 with 2252 views | Doctor_Earman | He'll probably end up going somewhere like Reading for £2.5m and a 10% sell-on. It's the Evans way.

Hang on a minute, we lost £9m in TV revenue but sold more season tickets, saved £13m on wages, sold Bart and Harrison, got sell on fees for Mings, Webster and Clarke and all we could do in the Jan window is bring Earl in on loan. LOL.

That’s right. Overall aim is to cut costs as much as possible.
