That would be one of the most underwhelming signings I can remember. Trying to to think of a more underwhelming one and I'm struggling.
It's not like he's a raw young talent. He's 28. Played most of his career in well below this level and never been particularly prolific. Big lad for a plan B maybe but this is not a signing to that screams improvement.
What is Will Keane doing. Million times better than this option. Is Keane going to be offered much bigger wages still.
Genuinely felt more confident when we weren't signing people.
All that being said. As soon as he signs will give him a chance.
Not sure about this either. But as you said at the end, we've got to at least give him a chance. I admit I haven't even seen him play before. Anybody else seen him play? If so, what do you make of him?

Horses for courses. We lack physicality in this league, so maybe he'll give us that. Would prefer Kyle Walker up front though.

I seem to remember there being an awful lot of negativity towards James Wilson when he signed last summer, and by all accounts he came in and did a tidy job for us. Hawkins is clearly not coming in to oust Norwood/ Jackson and be our first choice striker, we were too often done by teams who have had lumps to hit the ball up to last season/ we lacked that option ourselves. Can play at CB too. I'm not saying it's an exciting signing by any means, I don't think it's intended to be either. He could turn out to be a useful addition when called upon.
He is one of the most ineffective strikers in league football over the last 5 or 6 years.
Keane has got some definite pedigree (see here: ) but unfortunately he doesn't score enough goals and also has injury concerns. Keane has got a lovely first touch at times. He's very frustrating as he does have a touch of quality about him but for whatever reason he just doesn't deliver enough.
Not the most inspiring player by all means, but he can also play centre back, of which the majority of his appearances for Portsmouth were last season. Taking that into consideration I wouldn’t go too much off his stats.
Offers us something different I suppose, somebody who will get on the end of things and hold the ball up. Whilst I wasn’t over the moon with this potential signing, I think a strike force of Norwood, Jackson, Hawkins, Sears and then the youngsters breaking through SHOULD be more than capable.

If you're posting highlights from an U21 game (in which he must have been an overage player) from 4 years ago to support your argument then the argument is not strong at all!
No doubt he has some decent technical ability, but he has almost no mobility, is p1ss weak in the air, has no aggression to his game at all. Plus my point was about him being ineffective, which you seem to agree with.
My main issue is that under no circumstances should we use our already small budget on a player that has already proved of little use to us over nearly a season and a half.
FWIW I'm not at all enthused by this Hawkins link either!

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

By pedigree I mean there was a lot of hype about him at Manchester United in his earlier days and it was believed he had a good chance of making the grade but it never worked out for him. I find him frustrating as you see little pieces of magic but just not enough. If you look at his goal scoring record for past clubs it's seriously lacking. He's definitely yet another player that hasn't lived up to the initial hype.

I see what you mean and agree. A player that should have achieved much more.

Yeah, I liked him. Lanky centre forward who also can play CB, came from non league but didn’t embarrass himself. Didn’t really get a run in the team, was never first choice but half decent. Surprised Ipswich are in for him, thought he’s be low div 1/top div 2 standard at best.
He is one of the most ineffective strikers in league football over the last 5 or 6 years.
I'm not obsessed with him. I just rate him. He's had a dreadful time with injuries but finally got the best part of a season in and will much better for it. He's clearly capable with the right service and can progress upward with us should we get promoted.
This is a bit of a desperate signing. Keane gives me more hope. If he stays fit he'll do well for someone next season. You point Keane in an attacking side like Peterborough and he would score a lot of goals.
